THE AWFUL TRUTH OF ALFRED ILG FIREARM SMUGGLER: THE BITWEDED OF “MENELIK II” Part I

Alfred Ilg served as the best adviser in all spheres, smuggled weapons, participated in the war with Menelik’s illiterate, arrogant killer troops called “fannos” who conducted genocides where ever their footholds. He was assigned to the ministry of all affairs, officially awarded “Councilor of state with Excellency and honored” with a title called “Bitweded” by Menelik II. Bitweded-an Amharic word literally means the beloved, and it is the highest title ever conferred on a foreigner for his three decades of loyal services, although his official contract to construct railroad was for three Years. It worth’s to know that for Menelik an engineer means the man who can all as considered Ilg as a “God.” Indeed, Menelik was right because Alfred Ilg was the only trusted Fernj (Whiteman) that lead a blind man; Menelik to its dream of Expansion and creation of one of the barbaric,predatory Abyssinian Empire we know today in the horn of Africa, as “ Quasi-Ethiopian State.” Without Alfred Ilg plausibly the fake “Ethiopia” we know today, where over Eighty Ethno-nationals are incarcerated since then, could have never existed.

If someone asks who is Alfred Ilg? The most probable answer that comes in the mind of the majority one could get is the “Rail-road-construction-the gate to civilization,” that was and still is what the propaganda of both beneficiaries, the Abyssinians, and the Swiss tell. But the fact on the ground speaks another language if someone has an  opportunity of reading and analyzing authentic written documents deep into the bone marrow available in german language.

 

In OSAs mid-year conference that was first held in Munich,Germany, under the Theme: “Historical and Contemporary Relations between  Europe and the Oromo” and What the position of Alfred Ilg suggests about the European Role in Building the Ethiopian State under Menelik was included in the preliminary schedule but not finalised to be explored by our Qabannee:Bonnie Holcomb. I had had an opportunity to study at list three authors and their books written in German language through library loans on the role of Alfred Ilg and Menelik of Abyssinia from the various perspective and hoped to gain more knowledge from our blessed expertise on the subject in the conference on 29th of March 2015 in Munich.

 

The Portuguese: the Eye opener of Europe

 

Portuguese was and still is credited for opening the Eyes of Europe that there is a land behind the seas and oceans beyond Europe’s geographical boundaries. Vasco da Gama who was born in Sines, Portugal and his voyages around Africa, and India, booties shipped back home he ends of 15th century reawakened Europe to compete for turfs around the world. Europe come to the position that we have long experiences of butchering each other since the era of Vikings’ within our geographical boundaries why could not we do it abroad? And they did it. Portuguese was considered as the real mother of over five centuries of Chattel slavery.

 

Although the direct influences, interests and supports of the Portuguese in Abyssinia proper go back to Christoph, the brother of Vasco da Gama of Portugal in the 1540s, about four centuries later, the Berlin conference is not an act of solo states, but Europe as a continent including the USA to scramble for rich African, and Asian resources that holds true to the present.

 

Five years before the scramble for Africa’s conference by European colonizers, whose seeds were sown, and catalyzed by the German leader Otto Bismarck in the year 1884/1885 held in Berlin, one of a swiss national named Alfred Ilg began to serve Sahile Mariam who was one of the three rival warlords of the region, in Abyssinia proper in the horn of Africa during this period. Abyssinia was considered as a shareholder “partner” for scrambling the horn of Africa. Among the three rivals of Abyssinian warlords raised in the region at this period, Sahle Mariam (later renamed to “Menelik II” was singularly left, while the other two Kasas of Gonder and Tigre were killed, as the only final candidate “partner” for European colonizers missions in the horn of Africa.

 

Sahle Mariam knew Euro panes advanced firearms production and military advisors, from his two rivals, Kasa of Gonder (Tewdros) and Kasa of Tigray (Yohanis IV).For instance, A Swiss citizen, named Gunner, Louis was the military advisor and Yohanis had waged war against Sahile Mariam, to clean the roads toward the south, to Oromia, the resource-richest part in the horn of Africa. Sahile Mariam surrender to Yohanis, IV without any confrontation and submitted and obliged to pay him an annual attribute of 500 slaves 50,000 Maria Theresa thaler , 500 Mules, 10,000 Horses 50,000 head of cattle and several thousand measures of grains large container (Gambos) of meat, butter,etc., all, stolen, looted, plundered from Oromo land. Yohanis also order free pass for his “armies” hordes to Yaaya Gulaalee “Debree Libanose” to the central Salaale region of Tuulama Oromo. Sahile Mariam must also show a humiliating act of submission and present himself naked to the waist and carry rock on his neck to beg him to pardon to pledge fealty and approach barefoot and with his face down. A typical, Abyssinian mannerism, deep-rooted, “Civilization” of Coptic-Orthodox-doctrine. Yohansi IV also ordered him to supply with “Armies” to fight against the Egyptians.

 

As the underdog, Sahile Marima’s main dream at this particular period was, in fact, to obtain enough modern firearms to fight against Yohanis IV. Thus, Sahile Marima’s gave a contract to the Swiss Company called Fuerrer and Eshen in Aden to seek for a good European “engineer” for his service, like Gunner Louis, Yohanes’s military adviser.

 

The Swiss national Alfred Ilg was found to be the perfect person for Menelik’s colonization and expansions projects for the coming three decades of his services and the creation of one of the barbaric predatory empire, the so-called “Ethiopia” of today. Fuerrer knew Alfred Ilg in Zurich who finally hired him, signed a contract for three years as an engineer to build Railroad from Finfinne to Somali coast with an annual salary of five thousand francs and organized his journey to Abyssinia. The rail–road project was designed by France Company as the sphere of political influence in the horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and its coast and especially Abyssinia. France dreamed of joining the colonial lands in Africa stretching from Djibouti, the most eastern coast of the African continent to Dakar-Senegal, West Africa, analog to Britain’s Cape Town to Cairo railroad dream.

 

It worth to note “engineer” in Menelik’s mind mean someone who can all so to say like a “God.” he was an alphabet and cannot read and write with his own langue late alone to develop an interest in technology or civilization he had never had it in his vocabulary. He desperately sought a middle man to have an access to modern European Firearms, corresponding trainers, and techniques, Advisor, Financiers, etc., urgently. Thus, the railway constructions contract made was simply an entry visa to achieve his dream of colonization of the south and settlement’s projects as it was happened.

 

Neutrality of Swiss: beyond duality

The law lexicon defines Neutrality as:

The state of a nation which takes no part between two or more other. nations at war with each other. Neutrality consists in the observance of a strict and honest impartiality, so as not to afford advantage in the war to either party; and particularly in so far restraining its trade to the accustomed course which is held in time of peace, as not to render assistance to one of the belligerents in escaping the effects of the other’s hostilities Even a loan of money to one of the belligerent parties is considered a violation of neutrality. A fraudulent neutrality is considered as no neutrality.

 

As folks adage says that everybody is the moon, and has his dark side which (S)he could not show to the others. We were told that during the scramble for Africa by European colonizers Switzerland has considered herself as a neutral state and told us how missionaries supported the emancipation movement of the decolonization in the African continent. In fact, she turned to be neither one nor the other as the legal definition of neutrality qualifies it.

 

Switzerland declaration of her neutrality in relation to her foreign policy of the Confederation was in 1815, to avoid a long lasted internal conflict within the region. Because of her Folks composition and geographical position in central Europe, where major wars were fought against each other to control the Alpine transit route in all compass directions. Otherwise, it was unthinkable to avoid the conflicts within Europe. That being said, how can one justifies the neutrality of the state that sales weapon like Vetterli-Swiss Riffles abroad to warlords in Africa and a number of her (Swiss) citizens to be a military advisors, firearm smugglers, boots of colonialists, over thousands of stolen cultural goods, historical artifacts, symbols like crone of king of Kaffa were transported to her capital cities museum as save heaven she consider herself neutral analog to other metropolitans of Europe. Furthermore, when her citizen participates in the war of colonization actively like Alfred in Abyssinia among others. That is fraudulent neutrality that goes beyond duality.

 

The awful truth of Alfred Ilg and his Services

Alfred Ilg was born in Frauenfeld on 30th of March 1854 near Bodensee, Switzerland. He was grown up in the “Hause zum Hirschen” and the rest is communal”, with his mother Maria Magdalena Ilg, two step-sisters and step-father, senior lieutenant Neuweiler. Ilg obviously did not know his biological father that led to a difficult childhood life, because he was considered as an illegitimate son, out of wedlock teased at his primary canton school (Gymnasium) by his classmates and age groups in his hometown, and he must compensate with his physical ability. There is no worse than to be called illegitimate for a son who was grown up in Conservative Protestant Swiss community at this particular period of time. To the worst, the death of his step-father further surprised him and left a widow and two step-sisters on the breadline. He worked hard to take care of the family and studied mechanical engineering in Polytechnic school in Zurich (current Federal Institute of Technology) from 1873-1878. Ilg speaks French, Italian language, a little English that played a major role in his future life and services.

 

Although Ilg had a good qualification, he did not see a stable future of work and life in Switzerland, because Europe, in general, was found in great economic crisesIt worth’s to note that at this period of time, Europe, in general, was found in great economic crises, after intra-European civil war of Austro-Prussian War, Franco-Prussian war, followed by long depression and economic crises Europe and America. The people of Europe were migrated to another continent via Seas and Oceans to seek a better live at this period of time. Alone from Switzerland whose total population was known to be exactly Two and half million, about 13 thousand people were migrated to different part of the world thus Alfred Ilg was not unexceptional, except that he knew nothing about Abyssinia and it was the journey to the unknown world of a Swiss national, to bring a light to Africa as it is often called by all colonial power “the European civilization mission”. How dear humane were they and still are the Europeans to bring a light to a dark continent, that Africa was desperately waiting for so long. Were not they, the mothers of chattel slavery and slaveholders for over five centuries?

 

It must be in fact called European Colonization mission, barbarism and genocides and extermination. Apropos, Civilization began where mankind began and that was Africa more precise in Oromo land, the cradle of human physically and mentally, and further following the courses of Laga Abbaayyaa, the blue Nile River, the root as in trees, where the major sources of its tributaries begins, like Jama, Mogor, Guder, Dhedhesaa rivers, etc., springs) that makes the great Nile River and the first great civilization along its way to Nuuba (Nubia) Marawaa (Meroe) ); the stem as in trees, and then to KMT- (Old Egypt) the flower as in trees of the African civilization. When Laga Abbaayyaa reaches KMT it was called Hapi in their language. KMT means the land of the black people, and Black is a color of the divine, and even the God, the creator symbolized with Black color: Waaqa Gurraacha .

 

Alfred Ilg and two Artesians began their journey on 28th of May1878 from Zurich to an unknown world to Abyssinia. First, he traveled from Zurich- Switzerland to Marseille-France with train and further to Aden-Yemen with Ship where he meets Fuerrer. They arrived at their final destination in eight months, on 1st of January 1879 at Akkoo Manooyyee or Halkobare deformed to “Ankober” by Amhara settlers where Sahile Mariam lived.The native Oromo residents of the place call it (H)alKoobari and to the hill Gooro beela that is about 2465 meters of elevation. It was a village-town with an estimated 10 to 15 thousand inhabits, living around the hill in irregularly distributed huts occupied by Amhara settlers colony surrounding by native Oromos who were turned to a house slave, field slaves, field workers, guards, and hand-workers of Sahile Mariyam.

 

Halkobar is one of the name of Tuulama branch (Gosa) and territory of indigenous Oromo population inhabited in the eastern ranges of Tuulama plateau, with other Oromo Gosas in the region, Liche, Laalo, Dobba, Giche, Basso, Werrena, Majate, Qewet, Senbete, Jille, Tumuga, virtually exterminated by Amha Yasus who conducted genocide act for three decades of aggrandizement policy, territorial expansion and resettlement of the Amharas in evicted territories. His son, Asfawa Wesin followed his father’s footsteps further south, east and west in larger scale further for twenty-three years of extermination policy, proceeded with his son Wason Seged, who occupied the central Tuulama high land of Galan, Aborii, Gulalee, Abichuu, e.t.c, the nucleus of Oromo land that turned to the springboard of Sahle Mariam’s colonial expansions and the genocidal act like his forebears in the horn of Africa.

 

The Amhara settlers in Halkober who claimed to be descendent of Nagasi Krestos, a refuge who run out of over centuries of chronical wars of rival warlords in Abyssinia proper to save their life, settled, and treated humane. given shelter, foods, a piece of turf for the farm, even women by the Oromos, the settlers gradually turned their back against them began extermination and renamed the region.

 

After short days of pause in “Ankober”, Ilg and his colleges were ordered by Sahlie Mariyam to go to Shagar /Finfinne, the heartland of the Oromos, to build his own hut in Xiixa “Intotto” and settle there. They were escorted to Intoto with six thousand Neftenya-(weapon carrier) men. These were the first settler colony in the heart of Oromia lead by Ilg to be followed by Sahile Mariams settler colony soon and give the new name in favor of his wife to Shagar/Finfinne. Once we know for sure the behavior and the mannerism of Abyssinians men, in relation to others flora and fauna most specifically women, and nothing has changed contemporarily until they hold the power, it will not be difficult to grab what type of atrocities, genocides and ethnocide were conducted by Settlers on the Oromo inhabits of the region. Furthermore, if six thousand Netanya’s were assigned to escort one Ferenj, Alfred, what did we expect how many Netanya’s will follow the future “Negus Menelik” who is going to settle on the Tuulama highland plateau and what type of damage they committed against Oromo people around and beyond to the present.

 

Alfred Ilg built his hut in Intoto. Not only the material for construction and the laborers were provided by the Oromos under occupation but also Ilg was the first landlord given by Menelik, About forty Oromo families was turned to serve him serfdom provided him all what he needs for life. He learned the Amharic language using the German version of his bible parallel to Coptic- Habesha version of the bible of Sabean script autodidactically while there was neither teachers nor grammar book in Habesha language was available. Thus, it is not surprising that Menelik, a pitch black skin with funny nose and pock-marked face cannot read write his own language.

 

The first phase of Alfred was to build a trust. So he worked out figures as gifts from Tusks of Elephants, Rocks, Ivory, Woods, etc., to Sahle Mariam and his wife Tayitu. He becomes regular visits and Invitations from his future Master. Alfred knew what is running in Sahle Mariam’s mind in relations of Fernj (Europeans) who served as missionaries, advisors, weapon dealers. He must convince both pairs that he is a unique, loyal Frenj and not the untrusted white Men they knew. The most skeptical one was Tayitu that said “Fernj iytamenim”, but “they knew. It worth to note that Sahile Mariam’s priority dream was to find the road to get modern firearms from Europeans and military advisors, the rests what was related to technology or civilization was unworthy and it was simple a spin-off his dreams. He was an alphabet who had never had in his vocabulary late alone to develop an interest in technology or civilization. Thus, the services of Alfred Ilg began with everything related to firearms, ammunitions provided from Europe to Sahile Mariam and stored in his weapon storehouses, their maintains, reparations, and acquisitions from Europe. He was also responsible for recruiting, training new militias, building of fabrics to produce gunpowder, training, establishing trade unions, designing and building the future residence “Menelik gibbi or Adaarash” paved streets, bridges etc., around it, Church where Sahile Mariam was crowned and given the name “Menelik II” Conquering Lion of Judah, Elect of God, King of Kings” given by Abuna Mathewos, the head of the Coptic orthodox church in 1889. The dates to be read varies, some wrote on 9th of March and others wrote on the 3 rd of November in 1889 in “Intooto Mariam ”. All the hard works were done with slave labors, predominately by the Oromos.

 

In the next part, deep exploration of the political, financial and the role of advocacy for Abyssinia Alfred Ilg as a person and using his country as a shield of protection and intervention played between the mainly the three major dominant European colonizers in the horn of Africa, Italy, France and England and Abyssinia as chess board. At last but note least the role of Alfred Ilg in all treaties most importantly the diabolic lies of Abyssinia to the very date. She alleged as the falsity of the interpretations of the model verbs “the can and the must” Waacaale “Wichale treaty” between Italy and Menelik in May 1889 and waged war seven years later. During his Three decades of services as a minister of all his 6-times travels to Europe, and what the deals was all about and how other European states responded to his behavior and brought Abyssinia to world political arena.

Ethiopians die in floods and landslides after heavy rain

At least 50 people in Ethiopia have died in floods and landslides caused by heavy rain, a state-affiliated broadcaster has reported.

The rainfall follows one of the worst droughts in more than 50 years, made worse by the El Nino phenomenon.

Administrators in the southern district of Wolaita said 41 people had died in landslides on Monday.

Nine other people drowned in floods in the south-eastern area of Bale that also killed hundreds of head of cattle.

The flooding in Bale, in the south of the Oromia region, has reportedly affected 559 hectares (1,381 acres) of farmland too, washing away seeds.

Rescue efforts are under way to save people missing in the landslides, Wolaita police commissioner Alemayehu Mamo told Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC).

But a major road and bridge had also been damaged in the SNNP region, hampering rescue efforts, he said.

The BBC’s Emmanuel Igunza in the capital, Addis Ababa, says more than 10 million people are already in need of urgent humanitarian assistance because of the drought.

The government and aid agencies have launched a $1.4bn (£970m) appeal to help those requiring urgent food assistance.

Dear Obbo Dereje,

Firstly, I sincerely apologize on behalf of the PAFD/SNLF’s May 30th 2006 London’s conference coordinating committee for our delay in responding to your important question of 13th May 2016 due to a number of reasons. Moreover, learning the theme of your (question/suggestion/recommendation) has been also an issue so that the the responsibilities of the respondent is clear.
The questions you have raised are extremely essential, timely and relevant thus, it is very important for all involved to think it through thoroughly.
Some of the key reasons behind the establishment of PAFD is this. Unless we sing the tune of ”Freedom, Democracy, unrestricted rights to Self-Determination” for all in Unison, we only allow the regime brutalizing our nations’ and peoples both individually and collectively to remain in power. I strongly believe that none of us want this vicious regime to remain in power any longer.
Realistically, to be able to effectively dismantle the foundation of the brutalizing TPLF’s barbaric regime to replace it with genuine democracy where the rule of law becomes supreme with freedom of nations and peoples on deciding their own fates without being coerced and subjugated; the unity of the oppressed all is a mater of life or death. We neither deny the fact that we must be united to be effective nor convince ourselves with erroneous assertion that single handed struggle yields productive fruit.
The PAFD is here to be able to effectively address these issues by narrowing thus far extremely wide and debatable gaps and differences. Since its first general congress of April 21- 25, 2016, the PAFD’s various offices are working to galvanize the unity of all oppressed peoples and nations to effectively utilize the available human and material resources to harness the struggle for genuine change in Ethiopian politics- in unison.
I and my office will work with the other various PAFD’s offices to coordinate such united activities, hence  all peoples and oppressed nations’ political organisations are highly encouraged to be a full part of this; subject to satisfaction of the the PAFD’s constitutional but non-obstructive prerequisites.
Three Key offices will have greater roles in coordinating and ascertaining the said Unity with varying degrees of roles and responsibilities. These PAFD’s Offices involve
1. Office of Foreign Affairs
2. Office of Political and Organisational Affairs and
3. Office of Information and Communication; all under the leadership of PAFD’s incumbent Chair – sticking to the PAFD’s constitution ratified at the said first general congress.
The PAFD has made it crystal clear during its first historic aforementioned general congress that its door is open to all oppressed nations and peoples political organisations. Furthermore, it has even recommended to the foreign office to involve in its negotiation table those Unionists who are fighting the TPLF’s barbaric regime as long as they don’t attempt to dictate their accounts and want us to be the followers not an equal partners -in spite of our united force is (PAFD)’s being an absolute majority.
Therefore, I suggest that we work hand in hand with all whom Obbo Dereje has included in his emailing lists and beyond to materialize the dream of emancipating all from an obdurate and century old systems of subjugation and systematic slavery.
I thank Obbo Dereje on behalf of PAFD Information and Communication  Office for getting in touch to suggest and provide us with his invaluable comments and recommendations.
I finally suggest that the roles of fighting together for social justice, Freedom and Democracy is the responsibilities of all enlightened groups of people, therefore we need to work together in harmonious manner to affect this change  we all earnestly wish to occur and we have to begin it today.

I read announcement posted in “ayyaantuu” website–regarding commemorative  14thanniversary of the Sidama Loqqee massacre. It is very important to invite members and supporters of PAFD for different reasons/purposes.  Before seeing what you posted/announced, I was thinking how we will have a kind of social gathering or to organize similar events in United States in Washington D.C. I know that leaders of  Sidama Liberation Front, Ogaden Liberation Front, Gambella Nilotic Liberation Front, ARDUF  and other oppressed people political groups might be in another country. But, there might be members and supporters of each political organization in different states and/or countries including Washington DC. Thus, something has to be done to bring  diverse groups  and/or communities to work together in different states  and countries.  Some sort of connections are there every where but we need to better organize it. I know that Somalis have community organizations  in Virginia. But, I do not know any one of them. I will try to be connected to organize social gathering in Washington DC.  Of course, it is leadership responsibility to work on this or fill this gap. Thanks.

Tawfiq Islamic Center on Minnehaha Avenue to open soon

The Tawfiq Islamic Center on Minnehaha Avenue at 24th Street, now under construction, will open in July, after Ramadan. There will be a grand opening for the wider community. Executive Director Oumer M. Wako says they would like to share their culture with the neighborhood. And their food shelf, which they will reinstate once construction is over, is for everyone.
The Oromo Muslims (from Ethiopia) started to arrive in Minnesota in the early 1990s. As their population grew, they established Islamic centers in different parts of the Twin Cities, such as Fridley, North Minneapolis and St. Paul, to help sustain their cultural and religious identity and to preserve their heritage. All the centers work together. According to the Tawfiq Islamic Center on Minnehaha’s website, their mission is to “promote Muslim individual and community development through social and educational programs in light of the Quran and Sunnah.” Although they are primarily an Oromo group, the center is a place of nurture for all Muslims of any nationality, according to the director.
There are also Oromo Christians in the Twin Cities. The Tawfiq Islamic Center, says Mr. Wako, works together with them when there are human rights abuses against the Oromo people in Ethiopia, as is happening now, with the takeover of their lands by the government in the name of development, and the killing and brutal imprisonment of protesters.
The Tawfiq Islamic Center on Minnehaha Avenue, which shares the name of the Islamic center in North Minneapolis, was acquired in 2014. The architectural drawings of the finished exterior are very beautiful and captivating. The inside is massive, with various lovely greens and textured metal inside front doors. It contains seven classrooms (one of the educational programs holds a contest for which children memorize the Koran), many offices, a library, a bookstore, a gym, a community room for weddings and other celebrations, a prayer room  that holds about 450 people, special rooms for women to visit together (Wako says that, in Islam, men and women are separate), restrooms designed with areas for the customary Islamic footwashing, and special rooms for preparing and storing the dead before funerals and burial.
When the date is set for the grand opening, everyone will be invited to meet their Muslim neighbors and to become acquainted with the customs and values of Islam.

Time of Menopause and vanguard of victory

For more than 100 years, the Oromo people has been at war with enemies sworn to its destruction. It did not seek enmity or hostilities with them.  For much of this period, the Oromo leaders has pursued various strategies – including military engagements, benign neglect, willful blindness and outright appeasement . They all ignore the aforementioned realities and, as a practical matter, have exacerbated them. A lack of clarity about these realities or a strategy for dealing effectively with them has contributed to a strategic environment of great and growing danger and a wholly inadequate Oromo people struggle capacity for contending with such perils.

Ethiopia is a key strategic ally for the War on Terror, which insulates it from any US condemnation. Ethiopia receives the largest aid in Africa — an average $3.3 billion per year. The government abuses aid money to the extent that even government-provided seeds and fertilizer is denied to farmers who are not party members. Regarding the current uprising, the United States has issued a statement of concern. However, the regime itself is noticeably unconcerned because it knows these statements by the U.S. are accompanied by little or no action. Even the African Union, with its headquarter in Addis Ababa, while rightly concerned about a potential genocide in Burundi, is conspicuously silent on the massacre taking place against the Oromo right on its doorstep.

The Ethiopian military as an institution has acquired unprecedented power. Under any conceivable scenario, the military will continue to be a key and decisive player. Yet, it is not a truly national army; at the officer corps level, it is heavily dominated by Tigreans. Control of key economic sectors by the military under the EPRDF have made it difficult to limit its role to a strictly military one. The military’s role has other consequences of spiraling ethnic conflicts which have reached a boiling point in the current uprising. EPRDF rule has engendered profound hatred and resentments among different groups with Ethiopian society.

Beginning in December 2010, unprecedented mass demonstrations against poverty, corruption, and political repression broke out in several Arab countries, challenging the authority of some of the most entrenched regimes in the Middle East and North Africa. For example forcing Ben Ali to flee from Tunisia. The apparent success of the popular uprising in Tunisia, by then dubbed the Jasmine Revolution, inspired similar movements in other countries, including Egypt, Yemen, and Libya. Such was the case in Egypt, where in 2011 a popular uprising forced one of the region’s longest-serving and most influential leaders, Pres. osnī Mubārak, from power.

Qube generations of gallant Oromo son and daughters  inflamed the century long grievances and harassment of Oromo people in the name of Addis Ababa Master Plan encroaching and displacing Oromo farmers, but this masks a deeper grievance which has been brewing for at least two decades under this regime, and for over a century under successive Ethiopian rulers. Those uprising in Oromia was forcefully stopped by special commando of TPLF, killing at least more than 1000 peoples (including women and children) and imprisoned countless innocent freedoms fighters.

While opposition and discontent have been growing in Ethiopia, the security apparatus is ever vigilant against them . The TPLF marginalized both the legal and the extra-legal opposition, leaving little option but to fight them till death.  

This paper starting with a clear-eyed understanding of the enemy we confront – namely, Barbaric TPLF government, well-funded TPLF propaganda machines, traitors and puppet individuals, weak and paralyzed splinter organization and the essential elements for countering it.

  1. Barbaric TPLF government: The same system that imprisoned, chopped  and hanged general Tadesse Biru, Mr. Gudina Tumsa, Mamo mezemir and countless Oromos  are still govern us with a new face (TPLF-elite). My question is what is the rational explanation behind this endless sufferings? In order to get to the root of the colonial problem in Oromia, it is necessary to understand that oppression experienced over such a long period of time effects people’s minds and souls in seriously negative ways and creation of countless traitors those who expands enemy destructive propaganda internally and externally. It means recognizing that colonial injustices and oppression have had effects on both individuals and collectivities. Health and healing, in the true sense of these terms, can only be achieved by breaking out of the toxic environments of the enemies propaganda and reserve; physical, spiritual, psychological health of Oromo people, and socio-cultural integrity. When we are working together to achieve all those goals we become strong and dignified nations and our enemy will be weak and ineffective.
  2. Traitors and puppet individuals:  History has proved to us that our heroes were the true champions and advocates of true human rights and father of freedom.  But down the line of struggle instead of burning with desire for independence and freedom , the traitors who were not ready to pick up arms and fight for their freedom, more comfortable to eat the colonialist leftovers were systematically educated and groomed to inherit  the mantle while the WBO (our heroes) still fighting in the bush and qeerroos are confronting well organized and equipped TPLF junta with bare hands.

Opportunistic individuals and traitors were rewarded with plum jobs in the government and good education for their kids with scholarship overseas. In a new fake federal government of Oromia with an Oromo face yet the ‘colonial masters ‘still calling shots and controlling from their comfortable and luxurious oligarchical palaces in Mekele and arat kilo.

 

The political game to hoodwink and brainwash Oromo’s with the sweet sugar coated songs of patriotism, real democracy, time of development is over. Oromo’s are fed up with those who claim to be defender of his right and champion of democracy and yet looting our economy, amassing wealth and banking their loot overseas. Our new colonial masters have two faces known enemy TPLF elite and Opportunistic individuals, traitors and colonial collaborators who still enjoy the strapping of power and wealth inherited from the colonial masters. Unless we as a freedom fighters unite to fight them, our freedom and independence will just remain an ‘illusion‘ and our pride, desire to be free will soon be buried into the grave of oblivion.

  1. Weak and paralyzed splinter organization

Political instability is often act as a barrier to sustainable human development,  because they are disruptive to the delivery of services and development programmes, and make it more difficult for leaders to be accountable. The better organized the party is internally, the stronger its responses when faced with sudden challenges such as leadership changes, internal crises, enemy messengers and reforms within society.

In any democracy, having skilled and committed leaders are essential to the durability and impact of organizations. Leaders determine if and how the organization will deploy its resources, prioritize its goals, and engage with its community to take action. They incorporate individuals into the political system by bringing them into association with each other, represent members’ shared interests in the public arena, advocate for public outcomes, build democratic capacity within the public, and provide public forums within which democratic learning, motivation, and deliberation can be fostered. Leadership is essential to all of this work.

Yet multiple questions about leadership and leadership quality within political organizations still deserve more study, it is better to identify the leadership practices

that seem to be the most effective.

  • thinking creatively • listening to other people • accepting responsibility • accepting criticism • fighting and working for better results instead of propagating rumors • delegating responsibilities to others • coaching and mentoring others • providing others with support to do their work well • challenging others to be more effective • organizing and running a meeting  for strength and for victory • working effectively with public officials, intergovernmental organization, international leaders and policy makers • planning and carrying out a campaign against colonialism • working with the media in order to expose the realities instead of confusion • managing internal conflict

 

It is sad and unfortunate to see how many paralyzed and dormant organizations are formed since 1991 in the name of Oromo people. Before 1991 OLF has fought gratefully and thankfully a well-organized colonial power and brought light to our people. Still OLF is doing all kinds of struggle under very complex and complicated regional and geo-political situation (military, political and social ) in order to destroy our sworn enemy TPLF-junta. Many Oromo media (TV and radio) have done enormous contribution to enhance our struggle.  My question is here not the formation of a political organization but the fruitfulness and results of all those new and splinter organizations!!!!!

 

  • Did they transfer our struggle from one step to other?
  • Did they produce any significant positive evolution?
  • Did they have brought unification among our society or confusion?
  • Where is their creativity? Where is Their responsibility for their failure to fulfill what they promise? Where is their quality to enhance their people struggle on world stage?
  • Our struggle is not par-time job, it needs permanent presentation. Are their leaders consistently present on the stage or come to stage when their pocket is empty?
  • Are their leaders are contested with pain and grievances of our society?
  • Are their leaders create job for themselves in the name of Oromo peoples in order to compensate their incompetence in these competitive world?
  • Are their leaders dare to confess international leaders and organizations to confront the ongoing atrocities in Oromia? If yes tell officially to your people publicly your records when and where.

 

For me it is clear they are born to confuse and destruct our people from our goals, create jobs for themselves and empty honeycomb.

In medical terminology natural menopause is defined as the permanent cessation of menstrual periods, determined retrospectively after a woman has experienced 12 months of amenorrhea without any other obvious pathological or physiological cause. It occurs at a median age of 51.4 years in normal women, and is a reflection of complete, or near complete, ovarian follicular depletion, with resulting hypoestrogenemia and high follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentrations.

 

Adverse political developments can create direct socio-economic stagnation and affect seriously the long term plans of our peoples. So after so long period of time in our struggle (Oromo people struggle) it is time to be in menopause than giving birth to a handicap and paralyzed organization.

  • My message to those leaders who were already born and hospitalized in invalidation centrum please look a good diagnostic algorithm for your disease in order to classify a right diagnosis for yourself to get a right treatment in the rehabilitation center before asking a diagnostic algorithm for healthy Oromo people.
  • For groups who are preparing to acquire leaders from menopause time please get ready to exclude the chromosomal abnormalities in order to avoid disability of your leaders. Oromo people needs healthy, competitive, creative and charismatic leaders.  
  • For organization, those still working hard day and night to destroy our enemy in the bush and in the streets of Oromia and looking forward to create the best strategy to eradicate ones and for all our enemies stop to make deal with disabled groups and empty organizations.  Freedom is not pass to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on for them to do the same.

We as an Oromo, we must never lose what make us the best freedom fighters, first democratic nations in the world and most generous people in the globe even for our enemy. While the stand for freedom must begin with each of us individually, one alone is not enough. All freedom lovers must stand together to vanguard our victory. In my heart I still believe there are men and women who will stand for freedom, just as our hero’s did, not out of pride or power, but out of sense of service to the people of Oromo.

THE AWFUL TRUTH OF ALFRED ILG FIREARM SMUGGLER: THE BITWEDED OF “MENELIK II” Part II

The Tuulama highland plateau where Finfinne or Shagar is located was a beautiful village like any Oromia villages, with its blessed geographical contours where one can enjoy the beauty of its land escapes in all four compass directions from the top of the Xiixa or Intooto Moutain with an elevation of 2355 meters. The Tuulama highland plateau was proposed to be the most plausible terra known as the cradle of the Oromo people and the umblicalcord of Oromia and its capital city. It was known for its rich cattle production site from where the Oromos named it Dirree Saawa, means plain for cattle as the knowledgeable Oromo storyteller like Edaa’oo Boru proves it. It is an indication of its fertility, abundant grasses, water, rivers, and streams from where the name Finfinne means Fountain is coined.

 

The plateau Tuulama highland had a vegetation of great variety of fauna and flora of tropical highland forest with indigenous trees like Junipers trees, Podocarpus trees e.t.c, before the invasion of Eucalyptus trees seedling exported from Austral and the Habesah settlers. It was estimated to have about 150,000 to 200,000 inhabits, with distributed huts surrounded by farms, grasslands were horses, cattle’s, sheep and calves grasses, typical of all Oromia highland inhabitants residency before the genocide and ethnocide of the native Oromo were conducted by Habeshas most intensively by Sahile Maria’s nomadic, predatory settler/ Neftanyas and brigands and occupied and colonized that holds to the very minute.

 

Once Alfred and his two colleges were settled in Intooto, the next urgent project was building houses for Menelik’s future residence, roads, bridges, churches using slave labor and recruiting workers and soldiers and later on a construction of Bullet fabric in Finfinne. In smuggling weapons from Europe, the French citizen Leon Chenfneux was Alfred’s partner par excellence. Alfred Ilg traveled to Europe seven times as “Habeshanized ferji” with Swiss background to solve all the problems related to Menelik. These name Dirree Saawa was deformed to a meaningless name “Shoa” similar Fifinne was renamed to “Addis Ababa” by the settler colonialists that was turned to be the springboard of Sahile Maria’s expansions wars and genocides where the empire was increased from five to six to the original size of Abyssian proper, “thanks to the brain and architect of all affairs, weapon smuggler, advisor etc., of Sahile Mariam “Menelik II,”named Alfred Ilg of Swiss citizen” and the establishment of one of the primitive, barbaric empire contemporarily know as “Ethiopia” stolen from Greeks who knew nothing about the existence on this planet. Once settling in Fifinne, Sahile Mariam must urgently claim for the throne to be called “Menelik II” the myth of the tribe of Judah.

 

It was on the day when Sahlie Mariam was renamed to “Menelik II” by Abuna Mathewos in Intooto in 1889 that among other Europeans who participated in this ceremony, Alfred Ilg was the only person who appeared with local dresses “Shemma: an habeshanized Ferenj,” a plus point for his loyalty and trust indicator to Menelik and his circles. On the 2nd of May of the some year the Treaty of Waacaale (TW), deformed to a meaningless name “Wichale” by Abyssinian settlers was signed between Italy and Menelik. According to Oromo, genealogical descriptions Waacaale is a branch of Sikko Oromo resided in the northeastern parts of Oromo land, mostly known as Walo region to which Ittaya, Borru, Uttala Oromo Gosas or Qommos belongs among others inhabitants in the region.

 

Italy was the primary sources of weapon supplier to Sahile Maraim, as a hope to fight against the trouble maker, Yohanis of Tigre on the Italian-occupied colonial borders in the horn of Africa, Eritrea, who had over 30,000 soldiers trained by Swiss master Gunner Louis. The representative of Italian government G.P. Antonelli began working with Sahile Mariam since the beginning of the 1880s in so-called alliance plane and trade argument planes and Massawa was occupied by Italians without a single shot in 1885, and delivered over 189,000 weapons of war from Europe to Sahile Mariam through the port of Massawa under her control until 1895, within ten years alone. But, Sahile Mariam surrendered to Yohanis IV without a shot and pardoned as an underdog to hold his part occupied but pay annual attributes to Yohanis IV.Two months after Yohanis was killed by Mahdists the TW was signed be Italy and Sahile Mariam. First, the complete draft of the prepared treaty was written in Italy that Antonelli brought with him to Menelik in his occupied camp gafol or Zagol in Waacaale to be interpreted in Amharic, signed, and sent back to Italy to be ratified and executed. Menelik had signed and sent it back to Rome. Gafol or Zagol is the deep-rooted system of predatory Abyssian settler troops escorting their warlords or brigands preys on the local community within which they temporarily settled. They were known as “human locusts or plague” where ever their footholds.

 

The TW was the work of Antonelli and Alfred Ilg. Both of them equally knew Sahile Miriam, worked with each other as a friend or as foe depending on the time and circumstances. Both of them knew the Amharic language and native to the Italian language. The arrived at the some year and worked almost over 10 years with Sahile Miriam who finally profited immensely from both. As the letter reached Italy, Rome was very much satisfied and promptly sent as the reward of welcome gifts of 4000 Remington rifles with 200,000 cartridges, 500 other rifles, and 1million Westerly cartridges. Antonelli was very satisfied with the deals with Menelik who furthermore gave one-third of Eretria including Keren, and Asmara two months after TW. In addition to Firearms and ammunitions, Antonelli also secured a loan of 2 million Lire for Menelik in concision concerning the boundaries in February 1890

 

The spin of the modal verbs of TW the “can” and the “must”

 

The assumption that what Menelik had signed in TW and ratified was the translated Amharic version of the “can” but not the Italians version of the “must”, and was alleged to be the mistakes of alleged translator named Yosef of Menelik to Amharic was a betrayal of grade level A. he was found as scope goat. First, Yosef knew nothing about Italian alphabet late alone the syntaxes and semantics of the Italian language and holds a license of the translator. Thus, no healthy human curses an illiterate person for foreign language and exchanges of modal verbs except the Abyssinia’s. Secondly, If, the issue was as it was propagated by Abyssinians, one will not sign the treaty on the spot if he or she can be able to take the consequence granted, but not six years later. Third, Italy could never provide weapons and ammunitions of war and money loans since she occupied the red sea coasts and Eretria till TW. Fourth, one must know that Menelik was also an illiterate with his own language who cannot read and write, let all to detected the role of “must and can” and global treaties. His knowledge is limited to the villages he moved and settled and knew that Europe produces modern weapons of war that he eager to get to fight against his local rivals and territorial expansion in the region.

 

Thus, The fact that Italy was a protectorate was proved by Menelik himself at the end the end of the 1890s in dozen of letters written to Italy. It was also known by the responses he got from all Europeans except the Russians and Turkey symbolically who has no much spheres of influence to change the paradigm. It was known that Alfred Ilg, the spin engineer who knew Italian and Amharic languages was in Waachale with the alleged translator Yosef who knew no Italian, thus it can be only Ilg who translated the draft signed by Menelik and sent to Rome. In return Menelik was supplied with sufficient weapon and money loans from Italia which she was going to regret in March 1896.

The idea of the projects of betrayal and accusation of Antonelli began by Alfred Ilg himself it cannot be otherwise. In fact, all sorts of communications channels, letters mainly made between Menelik and the rest of the Europeans colonial powers in general, and around the horn of Africa in particular were opened, read, interpreted and responded through Alfred Ilg whom menelik authorized. One must  understand all Habesahs around him and he himself can not read and wrtite thir wn lanagauge let alone to act as a bridge as interpretor.Thus,  Menelik without Alfred Ilg was a blind man, and Alfred Ilg was a minister for all, an interpreter, secretary, advocate, foreign and domestic relations, trade and commerce begging from clay pot to white gold, plundered resources, looted subjestcs, stolen historical,cultural goods wherever the foot of Minilks predatory brigands Militias holds in Oromia and the whole south with similar historical fates  incarcerated in th empire. Alfred Ilg had a finger in every pie and no one by pass him.

 

In his first trip back to Europe Ilg represented his plans of Menelik’s empire to the Geographical-ethnological society of Zurich in May 1980. He left with the ship fully loaded with goods and resources exploited from conquered regions of the south as a whole such as Gold, Coffee, Ivory, Tusk, Cinnamon, Civet, Fur, Hide, Historical artifacts, etc to Europe. In return from Europe, he shipped back full of Weapons of war and its accessories, construction machines and materials, and some times gifts for his his Master-Menelik to Abyssinia, and that was the beginning trip and he would travel 6 times more untill to his final leave of the Empire in 1906 that will be explored in the follwing part.

A lot of inks were spilled on the barbarisms of the Habeshas-the exact name one must called them, go back to the day of their arrival in the horn Africa from Southwest Asian desert. Furthermore, nothing has changed and the world is witnessing it on daily base today. So, if a sacred historian writes about Habeshas histroy not folklore myth and fables, her signature must be barbarisms, famine, hunger and hypocrisy, last but not least diabolic lies and betrayal. The Italian accused Alfred Ilg not the barabaric menelik, and found him guilty called him Firearm smuggler and betrayal of the treaty.

Although the accusation of italiay did not bear fruit, the idea of  betrayal and annulment of the Treaty of Waacaale was designed and executed by Alfred Ilg. He comes out with the idea before Menelik official rejects the treaty he signed and won the gigantic amount of weapons and a debt of Two million Liras loans must be repaid and while Menelik and his settlers were in Famine and cannot pay it back. There were enough weapons of war than food in the empire on Menelik imported from Europe including Switzerland who portray herself neutrality this period of time. Effort to engage Minnesota’s Oromo community starts with a not-so-simple task: figuring out how many Oromo there are in Minnesota

Abdissa Loke is tired of being mistaken for Somali.

Loke and thousands of other Oromo people in Minnesota are often lumped into the same group as people from Somalia, despite coming from a different country, speaking a different language and having a different culture.

“In schools, hospitals, everywhere we go they define us as Somali,” Loke said. “We are the second largest immigrant population from [East] Africa, but they still don’t know us.”

Loke, who’s the executive director of the Oromo Cultural Institute of Minnesota (OCIM), plans to change that. With help from the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and the West Bank Community Coalition, OCIM began conducting door-to-door surveys last week in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis. The goal is to find out just how many Oromo people are living there — and what kind of barriers they’re facing.

The groups hope the data collected will help bring higher visibility to Minnesota’s Oromo population and open up city and state funding. “When [Oromo] identity is misrepresented as Somali, we feel [invisible],” said Loke. “That includes funding.”

Second largest East African population

OCIM estimates up to 40,000 Oromo people are living in Minnesota, but the state demographer’s office puts that number closer to 8,500.

Minnesota State Demographer Susan Brower said that by comparing census data with public school enrollment data — which documents which languages students speak at home — they were able to distinguish Minnesota’s Oromo population from the state’s estimated 18,000 Ethiopian immigrants. Oromos make up one of three major ethnic groups who come from Ethiopia.

Still, that leaves Oromos as the second largest East African group living in Minnesota, behind Somalis.

Mohamed Mohamed, executive director of the West Bank Community Coalition (WBCC), said the survey should be able to provide data on just how many Oromos live in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. Around 45 percent of the neighborhood’s population is immigrants, Mohamed said, and most of them are East African.

But finding out just how many of those are Oromo will help neighborhood associations like his better strategize their community engagement efforts to get residents more involved with city government. “We’d like people to understand what’s happening on the city level,” he said. “Really take ownership of their role as a community member.”

WBCC donated $2,000 to fund the survey, with Wilder pitching in $6,500 to pay for operational costs and staffing.

“The Oromo people are an integral part of the Twin Cities community,” said Wilder Associate Researcher Ryan Evans. “And Wilder Foundation, as part of this community and doing research that highlights parts of this community, we thought it was important to do this work.”

Mohamed said he’s excited to see this work get funding and that he hopes it’s just the start of the important task of documenting Oromo people and their culture throughout the state.

OCIM Board Chair Girma Hassan said once they have substantial data they plan to bring it to government officials with hopes of shedding light on struggles that specifically face Minnesota’s Oromo population, including funding that addresses their specific barriers.

“It’s very important for public servants to know the Oromos and the Oromo culture and the demographic of the Oromo people in the state of Minnesota,” Hassan said.

Early results of survey

With the survey only beginning on May 9 and run by volunteer canvassers, Loke said, they’ve only managed to interview around 20 people so far — but they hope to have at least 100 completed by the end of the month.

The results so far point to some common challenges. “Number one is language barriers,” Loke said. “Especially in public services … in buildings where they live or in transportation.”

For example, he said, many Oromo people have trouble riding the light rail, since the information is posted in English and Somali, but not in Oromo.

The language barrier also poses potential threats during emergencies, he said, since police officers and other emergency personnel don’t speak Oromo — a major problem in Cedar-Riverside where there’s a large Oromo-speaking population. “When an emergency happens, there’s very limited communication,” he said.

Hassan said part of the problem is that funding the state appropriates to translation efforts mostly covers Somali language, even though Oromos don’t speak Somali.

To add to that, the language issue is affecting Oromo youth, Hassan said. Young people don’t see learning the language as useful, so knowledge of Oromo culture has waned among those younger than 40, he said. “There’s concern about our children,” he said. “They’re not learning their language and they’re just learning English.”

Ethiopia crackdown on student protests taints higher education success

Over the past 15 years, Ethiopia has become home to one of the world’s fastest-growing higher education systems. Increasing the number of graduates in the country is a key component of the government’s industrialisation strategy and part of its ambitious plan to become a middle-income country by 2025. Since the 1990s, when there were just two public universities, almost 30 new institutions have sprung up.

On the face of it, this is good news for ordinary Ethiopians. But dig a little deeper and tales abound of students required to join one of the three government parties, with reports of restricted curricula, classroom spies and crackdowns on student protests commonplace at universities.

Nowhere has this been more evident than in Ambo in Oromia state. On 25 April, protests against government plans to bring parts the town under the administrative jurisdiction of the capital, Addis Ababa, began at Ambo University. By the following Tuesday, as protests spread to the town and other areas of Oromia, dozens of demonstrators had been killed in clashes with government forces, according to witnesses.

As Ethiopia experiences rapid economic expansion, its government plans to grow the capital out rather than up, and this involves annexing parts of the surrounding Oromia state. An official communique from the government absolved it of all responsibility for the clashes, claiming that just eight people had been killed and alleging that the violence had been coordinated by a few rogue anti-peace forces. The government maintains that it is attempting to extend Addis Ababa’s services to Oromia through its expansion of the city limits.

However, Oromia opposition figures tell a different story. On 2 May, the nationalist organisation the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) issued a press releasethat condemned the “barbaric and egregious killing of innocent Oromo university students who have peacefully demanded the regime to halt the displacement of Oromo farmers from their ancestral land, and the inclusion of Oromo cities and surrounding localities under Finfinnee [Addis Ababa] administration under the pretext of development”. The Addis Ababa regime dismisses the OLA as a terrorist organisation.

While news of the killing of unarmed protesters has caused great concern among many Ethiopians, there has been little coverage overseas. The government maintains strict control over the domestic media; indeed, it frequently ranks as one of the world’s chief jailers of journalists, and it is not easy to come by independent reporting of events in the country.

Nevertheless, the government’s communique does run contrary to reports by the few international media that did cover the attacks in Ambo, which placed the blame firmly on government forces.

The BBC reported that a witness in Ambo saw more than 20 bodies on the street, while Voice of America (VOA) reported that at least 17 protesters were killed by “elite security forces” on three campuses in Oromia. Local residents maintain that the figure [of those killed] was much higher.

These reports, while difficult to corroborate, have been backed up by Human Rights Watch, which issued a statement saying that “security forces have responded [to the protests] by shooting at and beating peaceful protesters in Ambo, Nekemte, Jimma, and other towns with unconfirmed reports from witnesses of dozens of casualties”. One university lecturer said he had been “rescued from the live ammunition”, and that it was the “vampires – the so-called federal police” who fired on the crowds.

The Ethiopian government likes to trumpet its higher education system to its western aid backers as a crowning success of its development policy. As billions in foreign aid are spent annually on Ethiopia, the west must be more cognisant of the fact that this money helps reinforce a government which cuts down those who dare to speak out against it.

Inevitably, continued support for such an oppressive regime justifies its brutal silencing of dissent. Yes, the higher education system has grown exponentially over the past 15 years but the oppression and killing of innocent students cannot be considered an achievement. Any system which crushes its brightest should not be considered a success.
