The status of the Oromo National Liberation Struggle and The Prevailing Political Climate in Ethiopia (August 2, 2018)

The recent political development in Oromiyaa and generally in Ethiopia has taken many by
surprise. Though the writing was on the wall for a kind of political upshot in due time, no one could
have expected that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) led regime of Ethiopia would be
suddenly pushed away from its long held political power in a relatively short period. From what
we have been closely following, the unfolding development in terms of creating a level plain
political space appears promising for now. Yet, given the political history of the empire state of
Ethiopia, it should be disconcerting that the present political development could be arrested before
it goes far enough to help resolve the underlying political issues that recurrently convulse the
empire.
Political convulsions had rocked Ethiopia from time to time to the extent that left significant marks
on its political, economic and social orders over the years. Merely taking stock of the revolutionary
upheavals that uprooted the decadent and longstanding monarchy in 1974, the 17 years of
relentless and bitter struggle headed by various national liberation fronts and the passive
resistance of the populace at large against the military junta (Dergue) that culminated in the
decimation of the Dergue in 1991, and the 27 years of reign of the TPLF oligarchy that crumpled
early this year and supplanted with reformist elements within the Ethiopia People’s Revolutionary
Democratic Party (EPRDF) following the sweeping and intrinsically unique social movement that
the Oromo youth (Qeerroo) has spearheaded for the last four years vividly demonstrate to what
degree the recurring popular revolts had to force Ethiopia to undergo political and socio-economic
transformations often at a colossal loss of human life and resource.
Given this trend that Ethiopia has recurrently experienced in the last half a century, the prospect of
yet another popular revolt is probable unless its underlying cause is addressed fundamentally. For
too long, all stripes of the ruling elites of Ethiopia have conveniently chosen not to seriously reckon
with it. When at all they ventured to do so, their commitments by in large remained superficial and
their approach lacked keenness. Consequently, Ethiopia has been left to face one tumultuous
political situation after another.
At present, it is in the mist of another political quagmire. And what we witness now is a high-stakes
endeavor for salvation of the heavily battered empire state of Ethiopia from its demise. However,
it remains to be seen whether Ethiopia can capture this opportune moment and genuinely and
pragmatically work to do away with its age old political problem or remain captive of its status quo
approach and face yet another surge of revolt of unprecedented proportion.
The direction thus far envisioned to weather through the prevailing political climate and arrest the

potentially deepening crisis appears right and promising. There appears a determination, albeit in
large part rhetorically, on the part of the EPRDF reformist elements headed by the Prime Minister
of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, to address the recurring political issues of the empire through
democratic and peaceful means. To his credit, though, the practical measures he has so

far taken to create a more democratic political landscape are bold. The release of most political
prisoners, the repeal of draconian press laws that muzzled and banned free and independent
media, the call extended to all political organizations of any persuasions to officially operate in
Ethiopia, the diplomatic moves made to promote peace and shared economic opportunities in the
Horn of Africa region prone to cyclical conflicts and natural calamities are significant strides in the
right direction.
ULFO commends the Prime Minister for the practical measures he has taken thus far. We hope
that he will continue to boldly remove structural roadblocks and help pave the way for the creation
of a democratic political order in which all nations and nationalities in Ethiopia can be able to
exercise their rights to self-determination.
It is ULFO’s political view that Ethiopia rides the wave of crisis owing to primarily two fundamental
causative factors: First, its political elites deny the historic fact that the once independent nations
and nationalities were forcibly incorporated into the present day Ethiopia through conquest, and
they incessantly propagate the narrative that Ethiopia existed for millennia as a nation state; and
consequently they refuse to acknowledge the claim of annexation of any one nation and by
extension write off the right of nations to self-determination. Second, under its successive rulers,
the gross violations of human rights and freedom have remained pervasive.
Unless these underlying issues are dealt with, ULFO believes strongly that the Oromo people as
a nation will continue to experience the violation of their right to self-rule, to use their economic
resource as they see fit, and to promote their language and cultural heritage freely. Equally, with
respect to basic human rights and individual freedom, it won’t be unlikely for them to incessantly
face egregious abuse. Hence, ULFO is committed to struggle against the blatant violations of
these two fundamental rights that the Oromo people continue to experience.
Towards this end, ULFO aspires to work with all Oromo political organizations to help galvanize
the human, financial, and material resources necessary for a better coordinated Oromo national
struggle that can make a major leap and expeditiously attain its objective – the establishment of
the Independent Republic of Oromiyaa. ULFO feels strongly that the unity of purpose amongst all
political organizations is critically important for the realization of this objective. If our nation is to
emancipate itself once and for all from all forms of oppressions and exploitations, such unity is
not an option but a necessity.
In the past, much to the chagrin of the Oromo public, the Oromo organizations failed to unite.
Over the last 20 years, on their own initiatives, many of them have made numerous attempts to
form unity. In several occasions, in response to mounting pressures from the growing demand of
the Oromo public, most of them have also endeavored to unite. However, none has come to
fruition for lack of seriousness on the part of some organizations or for unwarranted preconditions
demanded or terms dictated by few to effect the aspired unity. Consequently, despite utter
displeasure of the Oromo public, the state of unity among Oromo political organizations has
remained still elusive.
The impact of this faction riddled state of Oromo political organizations on our national struggle is
quite significant. It has stunted the struggle to the level of almost dormancy; so much so that it
has frustrated the Oromo public and left them in a state of despair. With no change in sight in the
state of affairs of the unity of the organizations, the public took the matter into their hands to
resuscitate the struggle. It is this public move that brought about the birth of the Qeerroo
movement.
The Qeerroo movement in just four years has put the Oromo national struggle in a breathtaking
trajectory. Understanding full well that the Oromo unity is a cornerstone of the struggle, the
Qerroos mobilized the Oromo youth across Oromiyaa to rally behind the motto of tokkummaa.
They galvanized the entire Oromo mass to act in unison in all matters of the Oromo national

concerns. Merely through peaceful demonstrations and echoing the demand for abbaa
biyyummaa throughout Oromiyaa, they confronted the naked aggression, the exploitation, and the
gross human rights violations perpetrated by the TPLF-led regime. For this, they paid the ultimate
sacrifice. None the less, at the end, they brought the most brutal and parasitic regime down to its
knee.

ULFO would like to take this opportunity to express its utmost admiration for the gallant sons and
daughters of Oromiyaa who faced Agazi, the heavily armed TPLF squad, with such bravery to
advance the cause of their nation. In the hands of this merciless force, many lost their lives and a
staggering number were injured and/or thrown to concentration camps or underground prison
cells. The Oromo nation will forever remember those Qeerroos who sacrificed their lives as its
martyrs, and that it will one day put up a statue that glorifies their heroic sacrifice. Likewise, it is
our hope that historians will studiously record this unique movement that marks a watershed in
the history of the Oromo national liberation struggle.
In the end, this historic Qeerroo movement culminated in nudging the Oromo People’s Democratic
Organization (OPDO) to wake-up and stride along the tide of change. In due course, it is this tide
that wrestled OPDO to be in line with the ensuing change. More importantly, it is this very tide that
sieved out reformist elements from the ranks of the organization and brought them forward to
amputate the political arm of the TPLF oligarchy and take over the political power of the empire.
This culmination breathed life into the stale political environment. It rendered a hope of change or
departure from the grim past under the draconian rule of the TPLF. It evoked a sense of euphoria
within the broad mass. This phenomenon of euphoric feeling is attributed primarily to the
commitment that the new Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, has made to broaden the democratic
space in order to allow the hitherto politically stifled populace to freely engage in any political
process and any espoused political leaning of its choice.
While ULFO appreciates the commitment of the Prime Minister to democracy, it has a serious
concern on how far he can go to address the root causes that throw Ethiopia into political
convulsion from time to time. The basis of its concern is that he has not yet put forward a concrete
policy document that clearly chart out the direction he wishes to pursue in addressing them.
ULFO is of the opinion that the role of this Prime Minister ought to be unique: That he should
consider (1) establishing a transition period and (2) preparing an action plan for such period for
the purpose of promoting a conducive political environment in which all nations and nationalities
engage in a free and democratic discourse and decide on their respective political destiny. In
effect, his role should focus on help setting a stage where annexed ethno-national communities,
such as the Oromo, can openly express their wishes and aspirations through a referendum and
seek a lasting panacea for the age old inherent problem of Ethiopia – the problem intrinsically
linked to the nature of Ethiopia as an empire. Hence, as his primary role, the Prime Minister should
capture this unique historic opportunity and let the peoples of Ethiopia have, for the first time, a
say on their inalienable rights. Equally, all stakeholders of the prevailing political change, on their
part, should play responsible and significant roles that advance the change to a state that can help
unravel problems that has shackled the Ethiopian empire since its formation. In this respect, ULFO
calls upon:
1. The Oromo people to maintain their unity; to remain vigilant of the unfolding change of
events; to take an active and responsible part in shaping each course of political events
in a way that suit their specific needs as a nation; to cooperatively work with all nations and
nationalities in the empire on matters of mutual interest.
2. Qeerroo to remain on guard against the slippage of the revolutionary gains registered thus
far; to keep promoting Oromummaa; to focus on engaging only on matters related to the
Oromo national interest; to resist the temptation of advancing political agenda of certain
political organizations or interest groups and to actually put pressure on such organizations
to emulate the Qeerroo movement and form unity of purpose.
3. All Oromo political organizations to take collective responsibility for failing to unite and
build one or two formidable national organization(s) until this day; to engage in discussion
with a sense of urgency and responsibility and resolve issues or problems that hitherto

precluded the unity of their organizations; to understand well that the interest of our nation
should override that of any one organization at this very moment and hence endeavour to
close ranks immediately and embark on facing potential challenges that our national
struggle could encounter down the road.

4. Oromo intellectuals to be mindful of the division of our intellectuals of particularly the early
1970s along different political persuasions/parties and the loss of traction of the Oromo
liberation struggle sustained; to not repeat the same mistake of ideological wrangling that
hugely undermined the Oromo national interest; to cease and desist from advancing ones
individual or partisan interest at the expense of one of our nation.
Understanding full well that the campaign of marring the flicker of hope for change is on the rise,
all concerned should prudently discharge their respective responsibilities of countering such
campaign. So far, to derail the change, campaigns of all kinds have been/are still being launched.
Some have already inflicted heavy loss of human life and resource. In this regard, ULFO
condemns in the strongest terms possible:
1. The ongoing war that Abdi Mohamoud Omar (Abdi Iley), the Somali regional president, and
his cohorts wage against our people in eastern Oromiyaa, southeastern Baale and
Borana. This war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced tens of thousands from
their ancestral land. It still continues unabated as a proxy war meant to resurrect the
Woyane oligarchy on one hand and to fulfill the expansionist ambition of Abdi Iley and the
like on the other.
2. The barbaric action of Abdi Iley that (a) uprooted over a million Oromo residents from their
own land, (b) tortured, raped and killed countless innocent Oromos (c) confiscated their
properties, and (d) displaced millions from their land.
3. TPLF desperate actions that instigated enter ethnic conflicts, for instance, between
Oromos in Wollo and Afars, between Gujii Oromos and Geedios as well as Burjiis, and
between Oromos in western Oromiyaa and the people of Benishangul that resulted in the
death and displacement of many. Such actions were futile attempts meant to merely create
chaos that can divert the current political change from its intended course.
In conclusion, ULFO warns that the nostalgia-stricken elements or political entities who drool for
the return of pre-1991 Ethiopia 14 xeqilaygizat or kiflehager should deeply ponder and refrain from
advancing a political agenda along this line. Such an attempt would put the empire on fire and the
consequence could be dire. The present federal system in Ethiopia, with all its flaws, is actually a
bare minimum political arrangement that could potentially keep the different nations and
nationalities together within the present empire state of Ethiopia. However, the Oromo people as
a colonized nation, should exercise their inalienable right to freely express their collective
aspiration for self- determination: the right to establish their own independent state of Oromiyaa
or opt for a federation or confederation with nations and nationalities that they have had shared
history for millennia. Therefore, it is critically important to respect the wish and aspiration of the
Oromo people as a nation. The temptation of imposing any political system or arrangement on
the Oromo is counterproductive and unjust. Equally, the fanning of the motto of Itiyophiyawinet to
merely eclipse Oromummaa is politically regressive at a time when the identity politics is at its
zenith.

Where does Gada depart from Democracy?

 

In the preceding article the inclusiveness of the Gada System of the Oromo people its sterility from the coming of tyranny, dictatorships, power abusers,  etc. in leadership position, in contrast to the amorphousness of the western democracy to hold power prelude to the tyranny, dictators, power abusers, e.t.c, leadership was thoroughly explored as in 1) Democracy is a System of Exclusion as Gada is the System of Inclusion and 2) Gada is sterile from tyranny as Democracy prelude to tranny and this part continues with:

 

3) The Law Stands Above All men (Seeri Nama Hundaa Oli)

 

In Oromo worldview, basically there are two types of laws, the laws of Mother Nature, and the laws made by man. Natural laws are laws that govern or regulate the universe, natural phenomena of the earth, the blue plant as it is often called. These are universal laws that living things must obey its rules and adjust themselves to it, to survive, to develop, to produce and to reproduce its species and live in harmony in the nexus of this inhabitable planet.

 

They are eternal laws and are immutable. Human as part of nature cannot alter, rework the laws of nature. A human cannot alter, for instance when the Sun must rises and sets, cannot change the axis of the rotation of the Planets, the movements of Stars and Moon, etc., Human must adjust to their rhythms as all livings do, such as to light and darkness, cold or warmness, high or low altitudes, etc.

 

It is also the law of nature, naturalism, the physical environment that profoundly shaped all living things, human thoughts, consciousness, influenced and inspired the development of man-made laws and regulations in human civilizations in all sphere of life to fit its nexus.

 

In the Gada system of the Oromo people, the cradle of biological as well as cultural civilizations of the human practices and teachings transferred from one to the next generations from time immemorial that man-made laws are treated as the product of human endeavor and deliberation invented by great law makers. Thus, the genius of Oromo’s, the master of law makers does not consider it as a gift of God or heroic ancestors or as supernatural thus incontestable.

 

Thus, in the Gada system, man-made laws are not static, rather they are dynamic, can be altered at any time as it is required, updated to fit and full fill the prerequisites of the people in time and place. In contrast, the Greco-Roman extension of the western democracy, in most cases are static, hardly alterable. I will briefly enlighten two states as an example, the USA and Germany, from Europe, who portrays themselves as “an apex of democracy and the rule law” to prove that the leaders have power above the man-made laws.

 

The USA law was constituted in 1787. The man-made law is preserved as a God given or supernatural gifts of their heroic ancestors thus therefore, immutable. In other words man-made laws were perceived as the law of nature more static, hardly alterable, and here lie the danger some of these laws written almost for one-and-half centuries old are out of date and are not compatible to the requests of the society of today.

 

The 1787 written law of the USA empowers the President to have the power to sign an executive order singularly, controls the intelligence information’s, sole control over the defense apparatus, and today in the modern era for instance in the USA, the nuclear weapon or other Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMDs) long range missiles and other military arsenals among many other like Biological Weapons (BWs). What meant to the vast majority of peace loving citizen of the world when one hears words like Fire and Fury from the USA president. In deed it was not a chess or a pin pong game that one can enjoy whatever the objective of the saying.

The 1787 law of the USA also explicitly assigned the president, the power to sign or veto legislation, mess-ups International laws, and affairs, to stifle bureaucracy and mount the bully pulpit that only the president singularly owes sufficient stature, etc. That proves that an entitled President is above the law, even worse above the international law.

 

In fact that is what we destined to witness such as the war waged by the USA, such as in Iraq, etc, by scapegoating the regime to control the resource as they call it Black gold, Oil. Since Donald Trump took the oath of office presidency in January 2017 just by muddling through the system called the America way of “democracy” and his main accomplishment within the USA was/is firing five of the top level of his administration and the resignations of other fifteen and did not know his own society, late alone the very complex world of today. Someone, who could not reiterate on Tuesday what he said on Monday. Someone, who comes out of the mind set of absolute denial of the facts at home or at the global arena and acts like Mafia style leadership as the insiders tell us, Remember, it is still called “the law of democracy” in the USA Style.

 

In post-Nazi Germany, the law empowers that the Chancellor proposes the candidates for ministerial office, i.e. the members of the Federal Cabinet, to the Federal President, the power to dismiss ministers, , singularly if he or she do not suit or show unquestionable loyalty, right to determine policy guidelines, etc.

.

The written laws of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany of 1949, called Basic Laws “das Grundgesetz “ was adapted from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948, and approved by The General Assembly of UN after unsettled disputes of World War I and aftermath of World War II that caused the death of over hundred thirty millions of humans all at one.

 

Germany as a major actor who waged both world wars, no matter what the causes might be who lost badly was occupied by the winners, and divided in to two semi-independent states, the west and the east. The western part ocupied the western allice was forced to replace the Nuremberg Race Law of 1935 and accept the demands of the UDHR of 1948 that Article 1, proclaims that human dignity shall be inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the duty of all state authority, and Article  3 which declares that “all persons shall be equal before the law” and that “no person shall be favored or disfavored because of sex, parentage, race, language, homeland and origin, faith…”.among the others.

 

It worth to know that, although Germnay lost in a field of politic’s and military, but not the mind or menatliy. And three-fourth of all things of human activities, beheavior, etc, are mental, Thus, what governed the minds of the post nazi Germany indeed has been the Nuremberg Race Law of 1935 of Nazis.

 

As a result of the denazifcations fiasco, and the collective failure of the occupying forces of all the allies of the World war II it was left intact, hibernated in the mind, waiting from time to shoot up on the surface. The time has come. The Byerlin-wall was torn down in 1989 and occupying forces left back to their home that gave a favorable environmnet for the hibernated Nazis explosions under the mantra re-united Germany euphoria. They were /are called neo-Nazis, a misnomer by itself as if all old nazis are in the graveyard.

 

Since then they commited barabric acts of killing, by buring the house of tarteged groups of people of non-German background, refuge campes, targted serial killings, e. t.c., turned their daily accomplishmnets and the State blindfloded his eyes, deafed their ears, even cooprated with them in same cases. The half-hearted behavior of the state’s mangement of the Nazis preludes to become the third political party clad with the garb of AfD in the current ruling party constellation.

 

More disgarce is that the so called law and the state turned to treat them and fund them as a standard, and institutinalised laws under the mask of “democarcy” that brought the Nazi resudals whose definations of “Germaness i.e. German parents (jus sangunis) of Nuremberg Race Law anlog to the Jim Crows Law in the USA as the third ranking in the cabinet, but turned not only as normal activites, but even justified the way they treatment the others who colud not fit to them on daily bases.

 

The fact is a state remains a state in which foreigners arrived in Geramny independent of time and place remain foreigners in every walks of life. Fact is the Nuremberg Race Law only “white” people could be German in real life and treated as prime was replaced on paper but the deep-seated deep in an enclosed society that operates under the vestiges of an exploitative racial cast in the entire soictey and welcomed duties by the state. Profoundly, if one digs deep to the root, but not only looking over the surface from outside it is the unwritten laws that operate under enclosed doors. The terms of the political jargon often spoken like neutralisation, Intigrations, Langugae etc ” are all balderdash in one. Its object is just to be considered as “multicultural, civilized, modern, e.t.c. ” brushed the outer layer with the Gold just to enhance their Image of Germaness.

 

Thus in the so called western democray man mad laws are mostly static, out of date, power holders are above the law and can abuse, prelude tyranny, assigned the power to sign or veto legislation, most worse the mass of the citzen donot even know it and can not undersatnd indeed even though it waswrttien witzh thie rown language. Most of them are a paper tiger, that does not practice in the real life of the society.

 

In contrast, in the Gada system, the law stands above all men, and Gad is sterile from the tyranny, zero tolerance for all sorts of discrimination and power abuse. It is mutable, all oromos are familiar with it and live in it. And no one stands above the law. All are subject to it equally, independent of entitlements. The Aba Gada (The President, or the Chancellor as it is called in Germany speaking countries, etc.) himself; or Hadhaa Seqee (the First Lady) is subject to the same law and the same punishments as all its citizens in case they violated it.

 

4) The Principle of Accountability: the role of Confession and Penalty

 

Although the 20th century was considered as the century of genocide and the ethos of genocide never again was born, It is unfortunate that the world is destined to witness that genocides are going on right know in various regions of the world such us in Africa and Asia tyrannical regimes ruling with iron-fist sponsored by the resource-geared foreign states and international companies by direct or indirect intervention.

 

They both, sponsors of wars and commitment to genocide and the local tyrants who are responsible for the atrocities in particular region have rarely brought to justice, either to the local or International criminal courts. They local tyrants are protected by their sponsors, and the sponsors of wars, such as internationally operating companies, and states like USA, EU, Russia, etc, are above the International law and never seen in taking accountability for sponsoring and supporting tyrants beyond their boundaries.

 

They are all above the international laws and regulations and the system constitutionalized and legalized by self-empowering, dictatorship and power abuses that have been self-evident and called it vetoing. Take an example, the hidden genocides (the criminals are yet free, and the so called UN were and still are blind folded and dull-witted) in Darfur, DRC, Ethiopia, Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, etc., As W. Faulkner reminds us: The past is never dead. It’s not even past, and that is one of the most tragic comprehensive stupidity of the human species incapable to learn from past, and still commits homicide on its own fellow human being. And the paranoia and the fraud of what is called “globalization-muscular self-assertion beyond their boundaries.”

 

Thus, no wonder that the 21st centuries have followed the footsteps of the 20th century except the fabrications of terminologies such as “soft power, hard power, globalizations, etc.,) where all are balderdash in one for the vast majority of the global citizen suffering from it and paying with their life.

 

In Gada system what makes human a humane or a devil is in fact their deeds. In other terms, a person in the Gada system of the Oromo people is a person in the eyes and the ears of another person. Self’s profiling, magnification, heroism is a behaviors of tyrants departing point, and very dangerous to the wellbeing’s of the society that is the methods the evilest men in the world such as of A. Hitler, J. Stalin, Mengistu Haile Maryam, Meles Zenawi and a number of African tyrants used and come to hold power and committed the mega killings, and Gada is hyper-allergic to tyranny and sterile from it.

 

Where as in Gada Self’s profiling propaganda, bravery, etc the may work for entertainment in lyrics, folklores- sanitized story-telling’s s songs, dances, drama’s, comedy, etc, but not to take administrative post and responsibility of leadership. Thus, Oromos avoid such personality right from the begging to give reposiblity.

 

In gad one is accountability for what one said and for what one did. For instance to begin with Lie is curse or Haraam in Oromo Culture. One loses not only faith, trust but human values. One is accountable for what he or she said, pro or contra the society and awarded respect or punished accordingly.

Where does Gada depart from Democracy?

 

In part IV the premise of the Gada System of the Oromo people that the law stands above all men and the principle of accountability: the role of confession and penalty in comparison to democracy was thoroughly elucidated, and this part continues with:

 

5) Separation of Religious, Ritual, and Political domains

 

We know for granted that mankind began in Africa, and religious thought began where man-kind began, the earliest paradigm of social reality that was based on the development of the dual elements, language and religious thoughts that led humanity in the arts of group cohesion, social organizations, and psych-spiritual matrix “software” called religion devised in the development of human civilizations from time immemorial.

 

In Oromo worldview and mythology, Waaqyyo nama uumane, kan affee Namatu uuma, in English God created human beings and the rest, such as languages Amantii (Religion, Spirit), Ideology, Social Laws, Moral and, Ethical norms etc created by human. Here it is very crucial to draw a line between the male-dominated versions of the religion of the Hebrew writings and its transitions in many languages that come later in a written form and teaches that God spoke with somebody else, a human and he wrote nothing else but Gods word and it is immutable.

 

According to the Oromo Mythology Waaqqa per se is invisible, but his deed is visible. Mankind has ever seen and never spoken with Waaqa late alone to write his words. I have no doubt it may seem very hard for some of us to digest, but that is the fact and the history of what is called Religion. Fact is with whatever book and its version one identifies to it, it is still a book and written by a human at one time and place and socio-cultural environments of that suit particular community in concern and further dissemination via seas and oceans with whatever means possible.

 

Today, it is firmly established that humanity’s cultural journey began in the rift valley region of East Africa and the Oromo’s are the largest inhabitants of the region who developed their own unique Gada system and Ammantii (Religion) called Waaqqeffannaa, (the Supreme Omnipotent God).

 

As we all eager to know and raise a question, when the Gada System of the Oromo people began, is equivalent to ask and find an accurate date to when do mankind begin to think communally and invented and established some sorts of regulatory norms, morals, ethics and Amantii (Religion). That being said, according to Oromo traditional time reckoning, it is conservatively calculated that the Gada system was about 4000 years old before the Current Era (BCE).

 

The psycho-spiritual social contract and transcendental “software” system called Amantii inspired from the universe in which mankind lived and the nexus between himself and the world around him to fulfill his own desire and live in harmony that profoundly affected humanity and human civilizations transmitted from one to the next generation from time Immemorial.

More importantly, they both works in concert, mutual respects, peace, love to each other and responsibility according to the position owed and the accomplishment its duties accordingly guided by the principle and the laws of the Gada in the Oromo society fertilizing and e, harmonizing with each other for the general wellbeing of their society.

 

In contrast, in the western Greco-Roman extensions of democracy, the top-down command, master-servant relationships have been a deep-rooted perception and extended acculturalization that holds true throughout their history and turned to the norm of the standard operations of the system.

 

6). Period of Testing: Time gap between election investiture

 

One of the very dangerous procedures performed in a western democracy has been the qualification of the unqualified person in the highest leadership positions. In a sense, one gives scalpels to the unqualified surgeon to carry out neurosurgery. As we have destined to witness, a candidate may wake up one morning coming from no-where and is intended to be elected as a president or Chancellor, etc., The only thing to accomplishes is what was called election campaign. Here begins the politics: a racket to steal money from the people.

 

By self-profiling with vapid rhetoric, with little or nil-experience for this specific positions within a short period of time the candidate restlessly begin manipulating almost all means of communications, mass media to steal the voice of the mainstream citizen.

 

The candidate’s feds the voters with words that entertain them most to steal their voice such as patriotism, bravery, grandiosity, a messiah born to solve their problem just to catapult and hold the power in the higher office and to lead the nation of that particular state. Once the voice of the people was stolen and power is gained, the real face of the winner which the voters do know nothing in defacto, and also rarely told the truth in mass media will take its path.

 

As a result, we do see a number of tyrannical “leaders” in the world. There is no mandatory period of testing the candidate’s activity in real societal activates pros and cons. There are no systems of the establishment of checking the candidate and tell about the real CV to avoid if he or she is qualified for the job. That is why the western democracy was and is amorphous and proved to be open to a tyrant, power abusers.

 

As Prof. Asmarom wrote how the Borana elder responded to the system western democracy and how the people elect their leaders. The Borana elder said “electing a man after hearing him give self-praising speeches is no wiser than marrying a woman after watching her sing and dance in the company of a crowd of admiring warriors.”

 

It the western democracy it is a standard establishment that one can simply weak up one morning from nowhere and says: I will candidate for the presidential election for next year, and begin to gamble with false promises, diabolic lies, and pseudo-patriotism propaganda, bravery, etc., and that was exactly the way most of the tyrants and power abusers catapulted to the political power and committed a crime against humanity under the masks of democracy know in the history of human civilization to the present day.

In the Gada system of the Oromo people the training, educations of the future candidate by master teachers for this specific and the highest responsibility position begins from the time a candidate is 21 years old and found in the Foolle or Gammee gurgudda,3rd Gada grade to its entry to the Gada grade at 40 years old. In other words, the candidate possesses the wisdom and training for half of his life.
