Scores killed in Ethiopia protest crackdown
Security forces accused of shooting dead people in Oromia and Amhara regions in attempt to suppress opposition voice.
Scores of people have been killed across Ethiopia’s Oromia and Amhara regions at the weekend, as the authorities brutally suppressed a new wave of anti-government protests in two key regions.
Opposition leader told AFP news agency that up to 50 people were killed, while Amnesty International claimed more than 90 people were killed, many of them extrajudicially, in the protests linked to an aborted government attempt to commandeer local land.
Ethiopian forces have systematically used excessive force in their mistaken attempts to silence dissenting voices |
Police fired tear gas and blocked roads to several towns in the vast Oromia region as demonstrations erupted after a call from a spontaneous social media movement.
“We have reports of between 48 to 50 protesters killed in Oromia. This death toll might be higher because there were a lot of wounded,” said Merera Gudina, leader of the opposition Oromo People’s Congress.
A diplomat confirmed that 49 people were killed. Among the towns worst hit by the violence were Nekemte, a town in western Ethiopia where 15 people were killed, the diplomat said, while 27 died in Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region.
“They appear to be low level, quite disorganised protests scattered all around…,” the diplomat told the AFP news agency on condition of anonymity.
“The brutal response of the government risks provoking more anger and making it worse.”
Amnesty International put the death toll at 97, with 67 killed in Oromia and 30 in Amhara on Saturday and Sunday. The rights group said the bloodshed in Bahir Dar may amount to “extrajudicial killings”.
“Ethiopian forces have systematically used excessive force in their mistaken attempts to silence dissenting voices,” Michelle Kagari, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes, said.
Months of protests
Ethiopian authorities had imposed a blanket internet blockade over the weekend.
Oromia saw unrest for several months until early this year, sparked by plans to allocate farmland in the region surrounding the capital for development.
Authorities scrapped the land scheme in January, but protests have flared again over the continued detention of opposition demonstrators.
At the weekend, protesters chanted anti-government slogans and waved dissident flags. Some demanded the release of jailed opposition politicians.
READ MORE: The ‘Ethiopia rising’ narrative and the Oromo protests
The state-owned Ethiopian News Agency said “illegal protests” staged by “anti-peace forces” had been brought under control, but it did not mention casualties.
Oromia is the second region to be hit by unrest in the past few days. In Amhara region, at least two people were killed in the ancient city of Gonder in clashes over the status of a disputed territory.
The demonstrators accused the government of rights abuses and marginalisation of ethnic communities.
The Oromo are Ethiopia’s largest ethnic group, constituting more than 30 percent of the population of 100 million. The Amhara are the second-largest group.
In the capital, Addis Ababa, which is located in Oromia, “many people were beaten,” said a witness who did not want to be identified.
“I saw others getting arrested. The government was out with guns in town. They’re moving with so-called special forces. There was lots of shooting,” he told DPA news agency.
Tensions have been rumbling for two decades over the status of Wolkayt district – a stretch of land that protesters from Amhara say was illegally incorporated into the neighbouring Tigray region to the north.

Ethiopia Had A Violent Weekend And The World Hardly Knows About It
(Carbonated) — The Ethiopian government switched off the internet and mobile services as dozens were killed during widespread political protests this past weekend.
Security forces shot tear gas and closed roads in major cities throughout the country as demonstrators protested against land reforms and alleged human rights abuses being carried out by the government.
On Aug. 6, hundreds of people gathered in Mescal square in the center of Addis Ababa, only to be dispersed by the police. Protests also broke out in the towns of Waliso and Ambo, both in Oromiya province. Eyewitness reports say that soldiers closed the roads and shot in the air. There is a large university in Ambo.
Ethiopian security forces used tear gas and blocked roads and other major towns to try to quell protests against alleged rights abuses.
Protests also took place in the towns of Ambo and Woliso in Oromiya, where large crowds gathered before soldiers blockaded roads and began to shoot in the air, witnesses said.
“We have rights but they are consistently violated by this government,” one protester told Reuters.
“They jail everyone who opposes them. All prisoners should be released.”

At least 90 protesters killed in Ethiopia – residents, opposition
By Aaron Maasho
ADDIS ABABA, Aug 8 (Reuters) – More than 90 people were shot dead by security forces in protests across Ethiopia’s Oromiya and Amhara regions at the weekend, residents and opposition officials said on Monday.
Unrest flared in Oromiya for several months until early this year over plans to allocate farmland surrounding the regional capital for development. Authorities scrapped the scheme in January, but protests flared again over the continued detention of opposition demonstrators.
At the weekend, protesters chanted anti-government slogans and waved dissident flags. Some demanded the release of jailed opposition politicians.
“So far, we have compiled a list of 33 protesters killed by armed security forces that included police and soldiers but I am very sure the list will grow,” Mulatu Gemechu, deputy chairman of the opposition Oromo Federalist Congress, said.
The deaths were in at least 10 towns across Oromiya, he said, including Ambo, Dembi Dolo and Nekemt – areas that saw previous rounds of protest.
“Twenty-six people have been injured, while several have been detained,” Mulatu said, adding three members of his party were also being held.
Government officials were not immediately available for comment. The state-owned Ethiopian News Agency said “illegal protests” by “anti-peace forces” had been brought under control. It did not mention casualties.
DISPUTED TERRITORY
Oromiya is the second region to be hit by unrest in the past few days.
In Amhara, residents said police fired live bullets at demonstrators during protests over disputed territory that continued until early Monday in the city of Bahir Dar.
“Soldiers fired live rounds at protesters. Hospitals have been filled by dead and wounded victims,” one resident said, putting the number killed at 60.
Tensions have been rumbling for two decades over the status of Wolkayt district, a stretch of land that protesters from Amhara say was illegally incorporated into the neighbouring Tigray region to the north.
Nigusu Tilahun, spokesperson for the regional government, told state-affiliated news outlets that seven people died over the weekend.
Amnesty International said the bloodshed in Bahir Dar may amount to “extrajudicial killings” and that at least 30 people were killed in one day.
The United States said it was “deeply concerned” by the violence in both regions.
“We reaffirm our call to respect the constitutionally enshrined rights of all citizens, including those with opposition views, to gather peacefully and to express their opinions,” its embassy in Addis Ababa said in a statement.
Any sign of unrest is closely watched in Ethiopia, a Western ally against Islamist militants in neighbouring Somalia and an economic power seen as a centre of relative stability in a fragile region.

Ethiopia: Dozens killed as police use excessive force against peaceful protesters

At least 97 people were killed and hundreds more injured when Ethiopian security forces fired live bullets at peaceful protesters across Oromia region and in parts of Amhara over the weekend, according to credible sources who spoke to Amnesty International.
Thousands of protesters turned out in Oromia and Amhara calling for political reform, justice and the rule of law. The worst bloodshed – which may amount to extrajudicial killings – took place in the northern city of Bahir Dar where at least 30 people were killed in one day.
“The security forces’ response was heavy-handed, but unsurprising. Ethiopian forces have systematically used excessive force in their mistaken attempts to silence dissenting voices,” said Michelle Kagari, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes.
“These crimes must be promptly, impartially and effectively investigated and all those suspected of criminal responsibility must be brought to justice in fair trials before ordinary civilian courts without recourse to death penalty.”
Information obtained by Amnesty International shows that police fired live bullets at protesters in Bahir Dar on 7 August, killing at least 30. Live fire was also used in Gondar on 6 August, claiming at least seven lives.
The security forces’ response was heavy-handed, but unsurprising. Ethiopian forces have systematically used excessive force in their mistaken attempts to silence dissenting voices
No deaths were reported from the Addis Ababa protests, but photos and videos seen by Amnesty International show police beating protesters with batons at Meskel Square, the capital’s main public space.
In Oromia and Amhara, hundreds were arrested and are being held at unofficial detention centres, including police and military training bases.
“We are extremely concerned that the use of unofficial detention facilities may expose victims to further human rights violations including torture and other forms of ill-treatment,” said Michelle Kagari.
“All those arrested during the protests must be immediately and unconditionally released as they are unjustly being held for exercising their right to freedom of opinion.”
Background
The protests in Oromia are a continuation of peaceful demonstrations that began in November 2015 against a government masterplan to integrate parts of Oromia into the capital Addis Ababa. Deaths were reported in multiple towns in the region, including Ambo, Adama, Asassa, Aweday, Gimbi, Haromaya, Neqemte, Robe and Shashemene.
The protests in Amhara began on 12 July 2016 when security forces attempted to arrest Colonel Demeka Zewdu, one of the leaders of the Wolqait Identity and Self-Determination Committee, for alleged terrorism offences.
Wolqait is an administrative district in Tigray Region that was part of Amhara Region before the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) came to power 1991. It has been agitating for reintegration into Amhara for the last 25 years.

August 6 Massacre throughout Oromiya by the TPLF Fascist regime will not prevent the
Oromo people’s desire for freedom, justice, and democracy.
The Oromo liberation Front (the OLF) strongly condemns the massacre of the peaceful Oromo protesters throughout
Oromiya by the Tigre Liberation Front (the TPLF) regime on August 6, 2016. The TPLF regime has cold blood
massacred over 100 people, and wounded over 1000 Oromos who peacefully demonstrated in over 200 towns in
Oromiya.
The OLF also condemns the killing of protesters in Gondar by the TPLF regime.
The TPLF regime since it seized state power in Ethiopia has been targeting the Oromo people, the largest ethnic group in
Ethiopia. Especially, for the last nine months, the TPLF has murdered over 600 Oromos who peacefully demanded their
rights that have even been guaranteed under the TPLF nominal constitution. The peaceful demands of the Oromo people
throughout Oromiya have been witnessed by international community.
The non-violence legitimate demands of the Oromo people have seen as a sign of weakness by the tyrannical TPLF
regime. But the Oromo people patience against egregious TPLF inhuman action for the last nine months has showed to
the world how peaceful Oromo people are. However, the massacre of August 6, 2016 throughout Oromiya against
Oromo people by the TPLF regime should be a game changer. No more Oromo should die without defending
himself/herself in the face of genocidal action of the TPLF regime.
On August 6, 2016 in all corners of Oromiya in over 200 cities, the Oromo people demonstrated peacefully by raising
their hands over their heads. But the fascist TPLF regime without any concern for the life and safety of the Oromo has
massacred over 100 peaceful Oromo protesters, and has wounded over a 1000. By massacring peaceful demonstrators
who came out to exercise their natural rights, the TPLF regime has crossed all means of humanity, and has showed its
predator nature to the world.
Now, the Oromo people have no other means except using all means at its disposal to defend themselves and save them
from elimination from the face of the earth.
The Oromo Liberation Front call upon all Oromos to use all necessary means to defend themselves from genocidal
action of the TPLF. The Oromo people should use all means to defend their life, family, property and country. The
Oromo and other peoples in Ethiopia should rise up together and defend their natural rights, and prevent them from
elimination by the diabolical TPLF regime.
Either the TPLF or the EPRDF has no legal or moral authority to claim the government of the Peoples of Ethiopia.
The OLF also calls upon Oromos in the armed force, police, and local militia to stand with your people and turn your
weapons against the TPLF regime. Defending the regime that kills your people is not only against human nature but a
crime that will not be forgotten for generation to come. Be on the side of the people, not with the side of dying minority
regime.
The OLF once again urges Oromo political organizations to come together immediate under one strong front, and wage
coordinated struggle against the TPLF regime along our people who have been daily confronting the TPLF regime in
unison. Time is an essence that we do not have to waste under fake motto of working together while maintaining our
organizational independence. The struggle of our people demands us to come under one formidable Front and one flag,
the symbol of our people’s struggle. Time is now, not tomorrow!!
Finally, the OLF also would like to call upon all forces in and outside Ethiopia to form a United Front against the TPLf
regime to enable the peoples in Ethiopia to decide their destiny by themselves.
Victory to Oromo people

A year after Obama’s visit, Ethiopia is in turmoil
In nearby Meskel Square here in the heart of the Ethiopian capital, police kicked around the remnants of protest signs. Just 10 minutes earlier, 500 people had gathered at the site — shouting slogans against the government before being beaten, rounded up and carted off by police.
In Ethiopia’s countryside, however, it was a bloodier story. Rights groups and opposition figures estimate that dozens were killed in a weekend of protests that shook this key U.S. ally in the Horn of Africa.
The government had switched off the Internet over the weekend, apparently to prevent demonstrators from organizing, so it was only by Monday that word spread of the extent of the violence across the Oromia and Amhara regions.
[Ethiopia confronts its worst violence in years]
Just a year ago, Ethiopia was basking in the world’s spotlight after a visit from President Obama and global accolades for its decade of double-digit growth and enviable stability in a dangerous region.
Since then, however, this country of nearly 100 million has been hit by a widespread drought that has halved growth, and anti-government protests have spread across two of its most populous regions.
The local weekly Addis Standard estimated that at least 50 people were killed over the weekend — based on phone calls to protest hot spots. Amnesty International put the toll at about 100, citing sources across the country.
On Monday, the government announced that the situation was under control and that “the attempted demonstrations were orchestrated by foreign enemies from near and far in partnership with local forces.”
Merera Gudina, chairman of the opposition Oromo Federalist Congress, told The Washington Post that an estimated 50 people died in the Oromia region on Saturday, while 27 were killed Sunday in Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region and a major tourist destination.
“The government is responding in the same way it has responded to such incidents for the last quarter of the century,” he said by phone from Washington. “They want to rule in the old way, and people are refusing to be ruled in the old way.”
[History repeats itself in Ethiopia]
Protests began in November in the Oromia region, a sprawling state the size of Nevada that is home to the Oromos, the largest ethnic group in the country. It is also the site of the capital.
As a booming Addis Ababa expanded and Ethiopia brought in foreign investors, more and more land from the surrounding Oromia region was confiscated. People also complained of corrupt administrators and, with little recourse to justice, began to stage demonstrations.
The government response was harsh. Human Rights Watch estimated that at least 400 people were killed in protests over the next several months. The official Ethiopian human rights council put the figure at 173.
In the face of the repression, the protests slowly quieted in Oromia, only to erupt last month in the neighboring region of Amhara, the historical ethnic center of the Ethiopian state and home to spectacular rock-cut churches and medieval castles that attract tourists from all over.
A botched government attempt to arrest activists in the northern city of Gondar in mid-July led to two days of rioting that killed 11 members of the security forces and five civilians. Two weeks later, tens of thousands held a peaceful demonstration over land issues and government repression.
Protesters in Amhara declared solidarity with the Oromo people and their opposition to the government, which many say is dominated by the minority Tigrayan ethnic group.
Activists abroad then called for demonstrations across the two regions this past weekend — a call to which thousands responded despite the Internet shutdown.
“It is clear Ethiopia has a potentially serious and destabilizing unrest on its hands,” said Rashid Abdi, the Horn of Africa project director at the International Crisis Group. “What started off as isolated and localized protests in the Oromia and Amhara regions has now morphed into a much broader movement covering a large swath of the country.”
He said the government has to move swiftly to defuse the crisis by engaging in talks with the communities and addressing the root causes of the dissatisfaction. Despite Ethiopia’s impressive economic gains, the growth has not been enough to “keep pace with rising social inequality” and unemployment, he said.
Opening these lines of communication, however, may be difficult because of a lack of leadership. Opposition parties have been repressed — the ruling coalition won 100 percent of the parliamentary seats in elections last year — and local officials are often mistrusted or viewed as corrupt.
Seyoum Teshome, a university lecturer in Woliso, a town in Oromia where protests also occurred, said people have taken to the streets because they don’t feel they have any other choice.
“They have no other option other than protests to explain their grievances; they have nothing,” he said.
Gudina, the opposition leader, said his party has been so curtailed by authorities that it has little control over what has been happening in Oromia. Most of the party’s leadership was imprisoned when the protests began last year.
He said that unless the government eased its repression, the violence would worsen.
“These protests are at the level of an intifada — people in their own ways are resisting the government pressure and demanding their rights,” he said, using an Arabic term that means uprising. “I don’t think it’s going to die down.”

Oromummaa cures the world cancer
By Dr. B.K.DERESSA
Adjusted Copy to:
- Secretary-general united nations Mr. Ban ki moon
- Secretary of state John F.Kerry
- President of the European Commission Mr. Jean Claude Juncker
In medical terminology Cancer, also called malignancy, is an abnormal growth of cells. There are multiple types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Symptoms vary depending on the type. Cancer treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery and also the most common causes of death worldwide.
Today, I am not going to discuss about the cancer that originate from the abnormal growth of cells but I would like to discuss about the leading cause of death worldwide the man made cancer . That is absence of freedom, democracy and peace.
According to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START project), based at the University of Maryland: “For evidence that authoritarian states create an enabling environment for terrorism, one has only to look at the location and origins of the major terrorist groups active today. The Islamic State, for example, metastasized amid the Syrian dictatorship’s war with opposition rebels and the sectarian divisions sown by increasingly authoritarian Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki. An affiliate of the group has emerged in Egypt, where coup leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is cracking down on all forms of dissent. And Boko Haram has radicalized and expanded its reach amid extrajudicial killings and other ineffective tactics by the corruption-plagued Nigerian security forces. Given this reality, the most effective way for democracies to combat terrorism at home over the long term is to foster democratic governance abroad.”
If the reality is promoting peace democracy and freedom in order to fight the burning global issues like terrorism why the USA, Europe and UN support the barbaric Ethiopia TPLF government and minority rule with full act of state terrorism ????
Concomitantly with my question I would like to congratulate the powerful western nations, world leaders and international institutions by announcing the remedies to cure world cancer. The remedies called Oromumma. The name of the therapy originate from the root of the truth called Oromo nations.
Most minor problems can be handled easily under democratic rule However, when the problems get worse rule of law overcome all the complex issues under democratic law. But under dictatorial rule (rule of gun) minor problems leads to torture, unlawful imprisonment and death. When the problems getting worse under rule of gun (like TPLF government) leads to genocide (currently ongoing open and silent genocide against Oromo nations by TPLF government) Despite all unhuman atrocities against Oromo nations for more than 120years the Oromo peoples still persistent in keeping intact and exercising daily the truth (nation of peace, nation of love, nation of freedom, nation of democratic belief, nation of generosity, nation of respect for all creatures and nation of equality). In order to clarify the facts let us look the issues deeply:
Oromo people are egalitarian society. Historically their democratic system of government known as “Gadaa” governed the social, economic political affairs of the Oromo people. Under Gadaa, Oromo women developed their own unique institution known as “Siiqee”. Oromo women used Siiqee institution to defend their rights, promote their interests and challenge male domination.
What happen to this Oromo nations with holistic approach of humanity:
After the Oromo people are colonized in 1880s all Oromo institutions are either totally banned or incapacitated. Since then the Oromo people are denied the right to determine on their social, economic, political and cultural affairs. For example, banning or incapacitating Siiqee hindered the Oromo women defending their rights. The colonial power is not only banned and incapacitated Oromo institutions but also introduced and widened discriminatory social practices (changing Oromo name to colonized names and gave order to the city administration to change the Oromo cites to be called in the colonized language and declare psychological war among Oromo’s in order to hate their identity and find jobs with their Oromo names).
What kinds of action has been taken by Oromo nations to defend the truth
- Raya and Azebo during 1928-30
- Bale revolt led by hero of the Oromo people general Waqo Guutu in 1960th
- Mecha-Tulema movement led by hero of the Oromo people general Tadesse Biru in 1965
- OLF leadership with popular mass movement and imprinting Oromummaa. Oromo liberation front (OLF) is the heart and mind of all Oromo people which confronts the colonization by all kinds of means namely (diplomatic and military approach) and works in multiple ways with international community and leaders to end the colonization.
- Qube generations supported by Qeerroo leadership with historic mobilization of the Oromo people to eradicate the colonization (December 2015-2016) resulted with European parliament resolution.
- Grand Oromia protestors (more than 200 Oromo cites) to end ones and for all the colonization (august 2016)
Why the USA, Europe and UN support the barbaric Ethiopia TPLF government
During recent protests from December 2015 until now the TPLF government committed serious atrocities against Oromo peoples, namely more than 700 Oromo’s are dead, countless were unlawfully imprisoned and tortured. The atrocities were documented by international organization and agencies, namely (HRW, AI, UN, former USA president and European union). Despite diverse tangible evidences of the holistic side of Oromo people and documented evidences of TPLF government atrocities the powerful western nations remain supporting the barbaric Ethiopia TPLF government. Let us look some facts:
In 2014 the Ethiopian Government receive around 30 million euro for the financing of multiple projects while the innocent Oromo civilians are slaughtered by TPLF soldiers in Ambo town 125km (80 miles) west of Addis Ababa (according to BBC reports in 2014, 47 were killed by the security forces) The protestors demanding respect of their constitutional rights and halting brutal act of TPLF soldiers (Agazi commando):their detail demands were:
- Stop land grapping
- Stop killings of Oromo children
- Stop killings of Oromo students
- Stop raping of Oromo Women’s
- Respect rule of law and reject rule of gun
- Abide by real definition of democracy and stop TPLF defined democracy (rule of gun, death, torture imprisonment, rape and harassment).
In 2015 The USA president Barack Obama visit Ethiopia and shows his appreciation for the contributions of troops to an AU peacekeeping force battling al-Shabaab in Somalia Again he mentioned also “The Ethiopian government has made extraordinary progress in bringing greater development and opportunity to its citizens,” he said, “but there are very significant restrictions that are not consistent with the universal values that we stand up for, for instance the need for a free press and we’ve seen too much intimidation, and even imprisonment of journalists, and the need for a viable space for civil society and political opposition in the country. So the president will be certainly raising issues related to human rights in Ethiopia”
In the same year of President Barack Obama visit the Oromo people’s in general (child, man, women, young, old, students, intellectuals, farmers, sick or health) were hunted down like fox in their own country, backyard and home. All those atrocities led to the mass protest of Oromo nations in December 2015 and still in august 2016 going on.
In 2016 I myself wrote a letter to the European parliament regarding the open and silent genocide against Oromo people: Here is the essential part of their reaction:
“The European union are closely following reports on the situation in Oromia, but also in the other parts of Ethiopia. The EU delegation and EU member states present in Addis have carried out field monitoring visits to the Oromia region and continue to monitor the situation. Since its December 2015 statement on the events in Oromia, the EU has raised its concerns on several occasions with the Ethiopian authorities, for example: with prime minster Hailemariam Desalgn and Minster Tedro’s A We have called for independent investigations on the events, and for accountability for all acts of violence and abuses perpetrated against protestors”.
From this 3 tangible evidences my analysis as follows: The western powers fail to understand the brutal and barbaric nature of the Ethiopia TPLF government and the total absence of knowledge about Oromumma vision (yes in january 2016 the European parliament passed resolution by condemning the Ethiopia government military action against Oromo people). But what still missing is the translation of that resolution to action.
The OLF is working very hard in order to enhance the translation of that resolution into action but the Oromo intellectuals and Oromo people’s especially Oromo living in diaspora has to do their part through individual actions or by supporting OLF initiative through multiple ways:
- The Western powers defending their interest. So we have to show them that we are able to protect their interests better than TPLF Mafia government by further promoting Oromo nations through Oromummaa agenda and vision.
- Misunderstanding of the nature of the Ethiopia TPLF government and absence of knowledge about Oromummaa vision. That shows us our colonizers like TPLF government is able to sell false issues to the world body and we are unable to tell the truth to the world body. The solution is be able to expand the value and importance of Oromummaa on the international arena.
- The evidence of the century long humiliation, subjugation, and inequalities against Oromo peoples by colonizers and deafening of international bodies, it encourage us in order to redouble our abilities to install Oromummaa. Oromummaa Advocates for democracy, freedom, peace, equality, respect of human right and rule of law.
Action taken by Oromo intellectuals, Oromo political leaders, and Oromo voices reflects the truth:
Oromo peoples are now colonized for more than a century. During those long period of time they scarify enormous lives and properties to eradicate colonization and to regain their freedom in order to exercise their god given right.
For this freedom and human right realization the Oromo leaders and intellectuals always follow the path of truth, democratic road and humanity (the exact definition of their root called Oromo nations).
The actions taken by our leaders and intellectuals shows the powerfulness of the truth (Oromo nations) and commitment of Oromummaa for peace, freedom democracy, equality, respect of human right and rule of law. But Our colonizers are always choose to follow the path of destruction, non-democratic road map and path of anti-peace. Let us look some evidences from countless examples:
- The Ethiopian Emperor Hailesilasse fail to defeat Bale Oromo revolt and demand peace deal with Our hero General Waaqoo Guutu. General Waaqoo Guutuu accept the peace plan in order to solve all issues peacefully. Our colonizers as their habit after they made peace agreement and disarm the Oromo people they start to kill, torture, imprisonment and humiliation of the Oromo people to the level of dog.
2- In 1991 the Oromo people under leadership of their vanguard Organization OLF form a transitional government with the current barbaric TPLF government. OLF accept to disarm and put his soldiers in temporary military camp for the sake of peace and democracy in order to foster new Era in the Ethiopian empire to bring eternal peace for all oppressed nations. Again our colonizers with anti-peace and anti-democracy gene code in their DNA force OLF to leave the transitional government, and declare total war on Oromo people (start to kill Oromo civilians and start to kill and torture the disarmed soldiers in the peace camp).
- Mr. Bekele Gerba the vice chairman of OFC and the university teacher is unlawfully imprisoned, humiliated and denied any medical care for promoting peace, equality and democracy to everybody (inclusive our enemy). Mr. Bekele Gerba and his fellow innocent Oromo peoples are still languishing in prison camp without any criminal charge. This reflects also the exact character of our colonizers for more than a century (they are allergic for peace, freedom and democracy).
- Mr. Leenco Lataa the former founder of the OLF and the current president of ODF accept all humiliation for the sake of peace and travel to Ethiopia to explore peaceful solution. But the TPLF government force him to leave his own country and his own people (while they are the colonizers and occupiers). This episode also clarify that our colonizers are suffering from metastases of the world cancer (anti-peace, anti-democracy and violators of human rights).
- Oromo TV, TVOMT, OMN, qaanqee show, gadisa dhuga , Simbirtu radio, OVR, seife nebelbal radio, sagale afura biyya radio,Gadaa website, Ayyantuu news, Qeerroo website, Bilisummaa website, Oromia times, Advocating for Oromia website….etc are working hard to promote the truth (Oromo nations) through Oromummaa road map. But still we are fail to liquidate the traitors and opportunistic individuals, fail to promote the organization or movement which fight the ultimately battle for our nations, fail to bring our truth under world attention. So I would like to thank you for the job that all of you have done for our nation and we have to move step further together to glorify our nations.
My people as I have mentioned above our enemies understand very well that Oromo peoples are nation of peace. To implement their destructive policies and to dismantle the Oromo uprisings for freedom and democracy they use the word Peace and they use rule of gun instead of rule of law for implementation.
Secondly they sell false information and incorrect messages to the international community about their promises and vision while they are blackmailing the real facts and truth “Oromo nation”.
Call to Oromo people and international community:
Oromo people are nation of peace, nation of democratic rule, nation of justice and equality, nation of heroes, nation of generosity, nation of rich in culture, tradition and nature. I am proud to be born from this holistic and collective quality of nations. My people the task in front of us is enormous in order to build our nations. Our tasks are not only defeating the current barbaric TPLF government. It is also about our future that faces our nations like I have mentioned in my previous article “Nation-building is the product of conscious statecraft, not happenstance. Nation-building is always a work-in-progress; a dynamic process in constant need of nurturing and re-invention. Nation-building never stops and true nation-builder never rest because all nations are constantly facing up to new challenges. Nation-building is therefore about building the tangible and intangible threads that hold a political entity together and gives it a sense of purpose.”
Dear brothers and sisters
- wake up and ask yourself about your contribution in this historical national issues,
- take your responsibility to deliver your parts in order to defeat our enemies and glorify our nations,
- dedicate yourself to continue our struggle against humiliation and colonization,
- prepare yourself for ultimate scarifies to liberate your people from century long voice-less-ness and colonization,
- be ready to give all necessary support (information, material and financial).
International community: Especially the powerful states and world body (USA, European union and UN). Supporting and assisting the Oromo people in their struggle for peace, freedom and democracy would have enormous contribution for international community policies. Namely:
- Eradicating fundamentalist ideology and terrorism through encouraging Oromummaa vision the promotor of peace, freedom and democracy. Oromummaa Vision will bring eternal peace in Ethiopian empire, horn of Africa and Africa in general.
- Protecting and promoting western nation interest: There is no any other concrete, stable and trustful solution than Working with Oromo people in order to safeguard the western interest. The concrete evidence for this realities are as follows:
- For centuries long the pillar of economic power of the Ethiopian empire is Oromia.
- Rich in agricultural products like Teff (medically also essential)
- Rich in natural resources like Gold, mercury, marmar…etc
- The exporter of the best coffee in the world
- The heart of business arena
- The host of international organization like African Union and international embassies.

Nearly 100 Protesters Killed by Government Forces in Oromo and Amhara Regions of Ethiopia

Over the weekend, anti-government protests continued in Ethiopia, as dozens have been shot to death by security forces in the Oromo and Amhara regions of the country.
As the BBC reported, nearly 100 people were killed as a result of clashes with security forces, reflecting complaints over political and economic marginalization. The deadliest incident took place in Bahir Dar, located in Amhara, where at least 30 people died on Sunday. Protesters chanted anti-government slogans and waved dissident flags, and demanded the release of opposition activists, according to The Guardian. Soldiers fired live bullets at protesters, according to residents, and hospitals are filled with the dead and wounded.
At issue is the Wolkayt district, land that Amhara protesters claim was illegally incorporated by the adjacent Tigray region in the north. Tensions have built up over two decades regarding the status of the land.
“So far, we have compiled a list of 33 protesters killed by armed security forces that included police and soldiers, but I am very sure the list will grow,” said Mulatu Gemechu, deputy chairman of the opposition Oromo Federalist Congress, according to The Guardian.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International noted that the deaths in Bahir Dar may constitute “extrajudicial killings” and found that 67 people were killed when “security forces fired live bullets at peaceful protesters” in different towns and cities in the Oromo region over the weekend.
Gemechu added that the deaths were in at least 10 towns across Oromiya, including areas that had experienced protest in the past. “Twenty-six people have been injured, while several have been detained,” he said, referring to three of his party members.
“We reaffirm our call to respect the constitutionally enshrined rights of all citizens, including those with opposition views, to gather peacefully and to express their opinions,” the U.S. embassy in Addis Ababa said in a statement, noting it was “deeply concerned” with the bloodshed in the two regions of Ethiopia.
Earlier this year, Atlanta Black Star had reported that protests in the Oromia state reportedly left 140 dead, 2,000 injured, 30,000 arrested and 800 disappeared. Further, in April and May of 2014, police opened fire and killed dozens of protesters.
Conflicts have reflected ethnic strife, economics and land. In a country in which the government owns all the land, the demand for arable land has conflicted with increased urbanization. To exacerbate tensions, the Ethiopian government has leased land to foreign investors.
Local Oromian farmers had opposed the proposed expansion of the nation’s capital of Addis Ababa, arguing that an encroachment on their farmland would result. People in Oromo had claimed they were being displaced from their ancestral homeland. The largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, the Oromo are 40 percent of the nation’s population and speak Oromo, a separate language from Amharic, the official language.
In the latest incidents of bloodshed, opposition leaders warn the situation will only worsen amid heightened tensions, calls for an end to human rights abuses and the release of political prisoners.
“People are desperate and the government is not respecting the demands of the protesters,” Gemechu toldNBC News. “Military troops everywhere and for any little thing, opposition and student protesters are imprisoned, beaten or killed.”
The latest protests have gained steam due to pervasive dissatisfaction over the eroding quality of life in Ethiopia.
“Inflation is going up, electricity, water, infrastructure systems are all collapsing,” said Gemechu. “Daily life here has become so difficult and the people refuse to be silent any longer.”
“I have not seen anything of the sort happening now in my entire life,” Mohammed Ademo, founder of Opride.com, told NBC News.
According to Aderno, what is taking place could topple the Ethiopian government, which explains its violent response to the protests.
“The closest historical parallel is the revolution that saw the demise of Ethiopia’s last emperor, Haile Selassie. Even in that case the protests were largely confined to urban centers. The current protests have swept an entire region — nearly half of the country — galvanizing two of the country’s largest ethnic groups — the Oromo and Amhara.”
Meanwhile, the Ethiopian government has made no comment, other than to say, through the state-ownedEthiopian News Agency, that the “illegal protests” by “anti-peace forces” had been brought under control.
